"West Hollywood" and Hollywood are two different cities. Barny's Beanery on Santa Monica used to have a huge sign in the 70's that said "No fags allowed". Then West Hollywood became it's own town and the first mayor walked into the restaurant and took the sign down herself.

I'm 54 and I spent some of the best years of my life working in the film "biz" in Hollywood and living on the west side. Santa Monica, by Venice. It's a lot more populated now, but from the late 70's to the 90's when I moved, it was a great place. Always something to do. The Venice boardwalk, the beach bike trail from Malibu to 10 miles south along the ocean with no stops, Main Street, the 3rd St. promenade, incredible food everywhere. The best music, film and art. And tons of beautiful women.

I was there for the LA riots in 92'. A real lesson in how screwed up the government is. They let them happen. The National Guard was set up not letting people on the beach! The whole city was on fire, what were they protecting, the sand?
