Be Prepared: 21/12/2012 Was CHOSEN By TPTB
When the Vatican got hold of the Mayan Codexes, they employed the very best mathematicians of the time to calculate the end of the long count calendar. They then adjusted the dates of the time, so that the Mayan end date would fall on 21/12/2012.

So how many days did we 'lose' when they adjusted the calendar in the middle ages?

10.

That brings us to 31.12.12.

New Years Eve.

Everyone laughing about the 'failed Mayan prophecy' - relaxing their guard. Meanwhile, TPTB know that the actual date has yet to occur and can use the cover of Christmas Celebrations to safely bug-out.

New Years Eve.

Oh great. That gives me time to watch Elf, which I hadn't had a chance to do yet this year.

Think.

In the late 16th Century, Pope Gregory altered the calendar under a false pretext - the real reason was the books brought back to the Catholic Church by the Spanish in their ransacking of Mexico/South America some 60 years previous.

10 Days were 'lost'. That means today's real date is the 11th December 2012. TPTB know this.

The Mayan calendar does end on 21st December 2012 but in our current time, that equates to New Years Eve.

I agree. Elf is excellent. We always watch Christmas Vacation too.

As for the time/date translation. Isn't it based on solar rotations and stuff? Haven't calculations been done recently specifically tying it into TODAY's solar rotation, and thus 21st December, and NOT calculated by some weird culture to culture calendar translation? I mean, I could understand discrepancies if it were the latter, but surely this was not how the date was calculated.
