Re: Not a fan of the Abrahamic 'god'..

So there is no possibility whatsoever that these very intelligent men and women are wrong? How do you know that the dinosaur fossils weren't made in a lab to support an agenda? Have you yourself actually analysed the fossils and/or dug them up from the soil?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30518774

The evidence for evolution is overwhelming. My son took a college course in evolution and it is complicated and difficult to understand. Frankly, I am not intelligent enough to understand most of it. BUT....I do trust the scientists who put all this effort into finding the truth of this. And there is evidence in the form of fossils. And 93 percent of all scientists are atheists because they know that evolution is real.

What I can't believe in is myths. I don't believe there is some invisible man in the sky who can see me and who knows what I'm thinking. I stopped believing in Santa Claus when I was six. I don't believe in a mythical place called heaven where I will live forever. Even the thought of living forever is laughable. What does one do for a zillion, zillion years without being so bored they would like to die? And they can't die, so that would be hell. I am bored in this short life so I would not want to live forever.

I believe in things that are real and true. The garbage in the Bible, the men who live in whales and walk on water and raise people from the dead, etc., is the stuff of fantasy and it is for children. If you want to believe it, more power to you. And I can understand why you would because I suppose it is a nice thought to think that someone up there cares, but I only value truth.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20657814

Ok. I'm a biochemist (scientist) and I will know that there is no doubt that Christ and the Lord is real.

You are quite silly fully believing in scientific theories. Most of the scientists that create them don't even fully believe in them - that's why they're called theories.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30518774

If you are a biochemist, which I doubt, then you would have to have some PROOF for what you believe. Start with Jesus. There is absolutely zero evidence that, a man named Jesus who was born of a virgin and was raised from the dead, existed. As someone else noted, there is more evidence for the existence of Hercules. There were numerous myths about rising and dying savior gods long before the Jesus myth came to pass.

So if you DO believe in this, why? I would really like to know. Why do you want to believe a story that has no proof? There has to be a reason. Look at your own heart and tell me why? I believe in the "theory" of gravity and the "theory" of evolution. IF you were really a scientist, you would know that theories are seen as facts. Scientific theories are not just believed because it is convenient to believe them.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20657814

Look, just because we might not have the answers or proof that these things occurred, that does not mean that they didn't. Unfortunately because the vast majority of scientists make inaccurate judgements and conclusions, most people think all scientists are like that. We're not.

If you want an example of an inaccurate and invalid scientific statement/conclusion/judgement, them labeling any one thing extinct is simply WRONG. How would they know that the organism is extinct? Recently in Australia, an "extinct" shark species attacked a swimmer. Now do you see how unreliable scientific theories can be?

I can give you many other examples if you need them.

Very inaccurate. You have a lot to learn.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30518774

Then prove it. Prove to me that you "love" a God who kills children for fun, who makes a woman who is raped marry her rapist, who approves of slavery, that demands that you follow all kind of laws and commandments and sends you to hell if you don't, who killed a man who picked up some sticks on Sunday, who tells you to KILL every child who disobeys their parents.

If you LOVE this God, you are a liar because that is impossible, unless you are selfishly thinking of only YOU. If you think this God loves you, how would you ever know? You could be a Pharisee, a son of Satan, and you would never know it. How could you trust this God? Answer that, which you won't, of course. Christians never answer any questions because they are not allowed to ask them. They just give you these short, caustic answers that prove they are self-righteous and full of pride.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20657814

Again, inaccurate. Too much harsh judgement.

I could teach you a lot, but only if you humble yourself.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30518774

"... but only if you humble yourself." Translation: Stop questioning and blindly accept.

You people are all just sheep who need a shepherd. That is all. No one will ever win this ridiculous religion argument. Some people just need to believe in this stuff. Others don't. No one will EVER convince the other. Ever, ever.

The God who "rules" via fear?

------
 Quoting: BOWMAN

:judethc::flo9: Don't knock it, fear of the Lord has it's honorable place in the scheme of things.

Job 28:28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that [is] wisdom; and to depart from evil [is] understanding.

Psa 111:10 The fear of the LORD [is] the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do [his commandments]: his praise endureth for ever.

Pro 1:7 The fear of the LORD [is] the beginning of knowledge: [but] fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Pro 9:10 The fear of the LORD [is] the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy [is] understanding.

Pro 15:33 The fear of the LORD [is] the instruction of wisdom; and before honour [is] humility.

Isa 11:2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

Isa 33:6 And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, [and] strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD [is] his treasure.

I am not judging you but more like judging God and wondering why you would believe in a God who would commit such acts? To me, it is like worshiping Hitler.

If you believe in hell, then you do believe that God sends innocent people to be tormented forever. By that, I mean, you have to worship Jesus or you are condemned to hell. Many people do not wish to do this because they were taught something else as children. Or maybe people like me find the story nonsensical. But should we be tormented forever for not buying this story? Why do you believe this story? I would be interested to know.

You are judging me for not being humble but I don't see it that way. I don't believe in God because I love people. I could not reconcile myself to love a God that torments people forever. I feel this takes a humble heart, to put others before myself, to give up on a belief in a God who is cruel and heartless. Why would you even want to commit yourself to this God? As I see it, you could never, in a million years, trust him. He killed babies throughout the Bible. This makes no sense to me and it has nothing to do with me not being humble.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20657814

Such a hypocrite! Obama kills babies, millions of women kill babies, some people eat babies. And yet, you are more or less stating that people are more blessed and kind than God???? Dude, stop propping up an evil world with evil people against a just God. Stop picking this or that instead of looking at the whole. Who are you to judge God? You are nothing but hamburger that will die to the ground and become food for the maggots.

Talk about holier than thou. You are on a soapbox to destruction and you have been warned. If you touch the hot stove after being told it would burn you...then you deserve any consequence thereafter. So stop being a baby and victim. You either believe in God or you don't, but you cannot stand in judgement of something that you didn't even give a fair chance to start with. And if you did...woe is you and even still, woe is you for teaching others such a belief!!!

Do you not care about people who are born in other countries where they are not taught about Bible God? I am sure you believe that the only way to heaven is a belief in Jesus. But what if you were born before Jesus even existed, as millions of people were? What happened to the American Indians who died without Jesus?

Do you even care or are you only selfishly thinking of yourself? You feel you made the correct choice and that makes you so cocky and so sure of yourself. But what if you are wrong? What if YOU chose the wrong God? Your arrogance is appalling. Of course, you will just vomit out some scripture verse instead of being honest. But I KNOW that you don't really LOVE God. You fear God but you DO NOT love him. If you say you do, you are a liar.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20657814

Dude, it is the same fear that we had as children toward our parents and we still loved them. Stop talking so childish and irresponsible. You know what we mean, you just need to justify your own choice not to believe. You are a rebellious son!!! But, even you were covered by the blood of Christ for He died for everyone and all their sins, except that of disbelief, for how can He petition on your behalf if you do not believe in Him? Because God is real and Christ is there to defend us when we come against God's HOLY law. You are a sinner! I am a sinner! And YOU are the liar if you state differently.

God is all powerful and will NOT allow any person to die without having been made aware of His existence. This includes ALL mankind before Christ died. Think about it, the Native peoples DID worship one god, just as the Muslims do, and many other cultures. God did come to them as they sought Him out in their way, but only if the actually sought Him out. God tells us that we have no excuse not to and that He is FOUND in all that we see around us and this is how He convicted the faith and hearts of the cultures around the world and you know what, THEY DID seek Him out for these very reasons and God CAN and DID save them, He is after all, GOD and you are the foolish one who would think otherwise:

Romans 1:20
20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

Matthew 24:14
14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

Isaiah 55:11
11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30569561

There is so much wrong in this that I don't know where to start. Let me begin by saying that your opinion is just YOUR opionion. You think God saved the American Indians and the Muslims because they worship God in the form they were taught. I can only tell you that most all Christians do NOT feel this way. They will tell you that Jesus is the ONLY way to heaven. You can make up your own book about God, you can describe him the way YOU want to, but this does not make it true.

You say we feared our parents so we should "fear" God. I don't think my parents would be capable of sending me to hell. I don't think my parents would torture me for a minute, let alone for eternity, and they are only fallible humans. So comparing God to my parents is a really dumb comparison.

I am a woman and you call me a dude, just one more thing wrong in the things you said. THe gospel of Jesus was NOT preached to everyone. There were millions of people who died before he even existed. And you are just telling me things that other people taught you. You are not thinking for yourself. If you were born in a Muslim country, chances are good that you would be a Muslim.

I never said I was NOT a sinner. Where did you come up with this wrong? I would be quick to tell you that I am a sinner. I don't think I deserve eternal torment for the sins of my finite lifetime though. So maybe God is a sinner. Could you eternally torment anyone? If not, maybe the God you worship is a monster and you only worship him out of fear. Do you think this could be true?

Good vid.

Man finds the site of Jesus's crucifixion. The blood samples, were taken to be examined. Humans have 46 pairs of chromosomes. The blood discovered there, had 24 pairs. 23 from the mother, and only a single Y. This is impossible, and further shows Jesus divine origin, giving weight to the virgin birth.

In addition, the sulfur was examined from Sodom and Gomorrah. The hail sized sulfur, was discovered to be composed of a content level, not found on this Earth, volcanoes, or meteors. Giving further evidence, that the brimstone / sulfur, was from a supernatural source.

There's much more.

Wow, dude, take a chill pill. You seem really, really irate. WHy bring Obama into this? What does Obama have to do with God? And why bring abortion into this? Humans are sinful. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to tell you that. God, on the other hand, is just a MORE sinful version of the worst sinner you could ever imagine. HE makes Hitler look like an angel. God tortures people FOREVER, apparently. But, of course, that is the story people in control feed you so they can control you. You are too stupid to see it.

I am not holier than though because I am not holy at all. LOL, unless atheists are considered Holy. And I chuckle at your warning. You seem like you are really young and very indoctrinated by your parents. But if you get this angry at what I have said, maybe you should look at your own heart. I don't care what you believe. There is no sky daddy who loves you and praises your name. You don't live after you die. You are an animal. ANd that is precisely why you are so angry at me. Grow up. Do yourself a favor. And don't get so angry at people who are trying to tell you the truth.

To know this wasn't a camera defect, notice the angel's reflection on the floor.

Here's further evidence and the back story. A girl was in a life threatening condition. The hospital staff, had given up, and took her off life support. The angel is then seen in the security cam. The girl's mom, with her cellphone took the pic. After this incident, the girl miraculously recovered.

Also, notice the Mom's genuine emotion, as she's breaking down, recounting the experience. This further lets us know, that she isn't lying.

If this was still a hoax, where's the evidence to prove this?

Do you even care or are you only selfishly thinking of yourself? You feel you made the correct choice and that makes you so cocky and so sure of yourself. But what if you are wrong? What if YOU chose the wrong God? Your arrogance is appalling. Of course, you will just vomit out some scripture verse instead of being honest. But I KNOW that you don't really LOVE God. You fear God but you DO NOT love him. If you say you do, you are a liar.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20657814

It is the same fear that we had as children toward our parents and we still loved them.

Didn't YOU state that we were talking about people who existed BEFORE Jesus Christ???? God made provisions for them in His divine creation.

You say we feared our parents so we should "fear" God. I don't think my parents would be capable of sending me to hell. I don't think my parents would torture me for a minute, let alone for eternity, and they are only fallible humans. So comparing God to my parents is a really dumb comparison.

Nope. I didn't state that you 'should', I said it is comparable. You can fear your parents and not fear God, no? But, we are talking about your immortal soul. If your parents were in control of such...they would have been much harsher. And besides, where does it state that God tortures? This is a human word to blaspheme God and who He is.

I beg your pardon, Ms. And yes, I could have been a Muslim and there are millions of Muslims who became Christians, no? They could only become that way if the gospel was preached to them.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20657814

Ask yourself this: Do you think there is any man on this earth, that if he had to power to torture for an eternity that he would not? If Hitler were on a stake of twigs and set on fire and we knew it would never end, would you have a problem with that, would others? Pol Pot? How many people cheered and laughed as others were burning alive or hanging til they strangled or broke their necks; or being eaten alive by lions??? You act like humanity is soo righteous, but they are NOT! History proves it. So, your holier than thou attitude against God, who justly punishes those who deny Him and His law...deserve nothing less than what humanity, themselves dole out to each other.

Do you lie? Have you lusted in your eyes, your heart at a married man? Have you coveted, have you hated? Just because you don't rape or murder doesn't mean that the law does not apply to you, nor the penalties against that law. If you offend just one, then you are guilty, just as we all are. When you wrong a friend or family member do you not ask their forgiveness? God is only asking the same and offers it. How relieved are you when you knew you were guilty and didn't deserve your friends forgiveness and they forgave you anyway? God offers this and you spit in His face. If you wish to focus on the downside of His message, then you are already living in the negative instead focusing on the promises of Him. Is your jar half empty or half full?

Just because you don't like the rules does not make God the villain. It isn't a contract, because you are free to walk away from Him. But, why must you try and convert or deter others from seeking Him out just because you do not wish to know Him?

Re: Not a fan of the Abrahamic 'god'..
...

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30518774

Sure, scientists are humans and they make mistakes. We are all human and pretty stupid. Probably in one-thousand years, people will look back and think that our theory of evolution was primitive. But this is also true of the Bible. They will laugh to think we believed in such myths. Humans are constantly changing their ideas about things and, therefore, our "truths" change as well.

I just believe scientists come up with the best ideas about our origins. Religions are old. Christianity is so similar to other older Egyptian mythology that you can't tell the difference. But scientists are attempting to find truth. They are not stuck back in the stone age.

Read the Bible like you would read any other book. If I handed you a book and if that book told you that donkeys could talk, and that an angry God tortured people forever, or that a wall fell down just because some people blew on some horns, etc., would you HONESTLY believe it? No, you wouldn't. You would see it as a fairy tale. But if these same unbelievable stories are written about in the old book called the Bible, you believe them with no question. WHy is this?

I mean he did all this petty, jealous and vengeful stuff in the old testament.. then to top it off sent his/her/its son to be killed by us.

That is not the type of god i want to pray to. Perhaps the snake in the garden was the good guy, trying to warn us about this sick fuck.

Im conflicted because the story of Jesus' life and his death is gut wrenching, i love that guy.

Wow you obviously no nothing about God, yet you are very quick to hate God.

Yo do realize that Jesus and God were one in the same right? Jesus is/was God in the flesh??

God came to Earth as Jesus.

GOD = The Father, The Holy Spirit, Jesus

GOD is made up of three parts The Holy Trinity and all 3 parts are as one.

Your god, of the Old Testament, created all of this, including Esau. If you truly believe, TRULY, then your god has to hate himself for creating and hating Esau, thereby making you hate them, and wish that they were dead. God, then, made very bad people, and then made "good" people hate and want to kill "bad" people. Really nice god you got there, buckaroo.

You see, it is simply YOU that hates Esau. That is all. Your hatred for your fellow man and death wish mentality proves that you are just a hateful human. You can't hide behind your silly beliefs, or justify your hatred for your fellow man because you say your god hates them. You hate. Nothing more.

Do you believe that some people have more intel than other people?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30518774

Is that a loaded question? I HOPE you are not implying that creationists are more intelligent than people who believe in evolution? IF you are, that is just laughable. Go talk to a scientist and try to understand evolution. And then go listen to some backwoods preacher who tells you that the only thing you need to do is BELIEVE and you will go to some eternal paradise. Which story is more believable?

A better question is which story do YOU want to believe because this is important. And this has nothing to do with intelligence. You WANT to believe the Jesus story because you think you will go to some eternal paradise where you will see your dead friends and relatives and live in a mansion, blah, blah, blah. That is NOT an intelligent decision. You should always base your decisions on truth and truth does not require your approval.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20657814

Quit jumping to conclusions.

What I meant was, is it possible for say me to have more intel than you? More experience in the subject, etc? Meaning I would know more than you, therefore your word against mine cannot stand. Is it possible?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30525185

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. YOU are making an innacurate assumption about me. I have studied all these subjects for years. I am an old woman. I have read up on many religions. I was a Christian when I started my journey to find "god." So I would think I would know just as much as you do and probably much more.

I do not believe something just because it gives me the warm fuzzies. I only want TRUTH. Evolution doesn't give a person the warm fuzzies. Only religion does that. So you believe because you WANT to believe. Not because there is evidence or proof for your religion. There is NONE. But you believe because you like that warm and fuzzy feeling it gives you. That means that your beliefs are tainted.

So are you saying that God is only for "intelligent" people? Are you saying that you have to study the Bible and find the hidden messages and only then you can know truth? I call bullshit on this. You would probably tell me that the story of the talking donkey is a metaphor and then think you were so intelligent for coming to your silly conclusions? What is the meaning of the talking donkey then and how would I possibly know truth from metaphor?

This has nothing to do with intelligence. It is simply YOU trying to give meaning to a book of fables. You could do the same thing with a Harry Potter novel. God accepted the child sacrifice of Jepthath's daughter. She was the first thing that came out of his house after God allowed him to win a battle. Jepthath willingly sacrificed his virgin daughter to God and God accepted, in fact, he required that Jepthath keep his word. Yet you would probably say you intelligently came to some conclusion about this that would have nothing to do with what the Bible actually says. You can't see the writing that is plainly in front of you. There is no hidden meaning. The God of the Bible is a monster. Deal with it and please grow up.

Ok, I've read enough here so let me cut through all the bullshit.

The great majority, if not all, of you are Esau. GOD, of the Old Testament, hates your asses. And you hate HIM. This thread proves it. You are a sample that represents the majority. There won't be any of you fucks left standing.

Nah, killing evil people like you is a good act.
Jesus also says you people will fry unless you will repent of your evil deeds.

That's the main problem here, you think you're good, you're not good you are evil.

Here you go OP now read and understand why you are being punished:

No, sicko, it is you that are evil. And if you can justify ANY type of killing based on your crazy religious fuffery, then you are proof that a LOVING god does not exist, and that true evil resides only in the hearts those who are bent on forcing their opinions on others.

Question: Does the theory of evolution, go against Genesis? If so, in what way?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30525185

Are you kidding? The stories in Genesis are insane. God created the world in seven days and he needed to take a rest because the work was hard. God created all of the planets and stars and the solar systems, etc. on a WEDNESDAY. On another day, he created the animals but was too lazy to name them so he made his man of the hour do that. COME ON.

You are joking, right? You are trying to pull my leg, to get some reaction out of me. And, silly me, I am falling for it. But it is rather fun so what the hell?

God sent some angels to Lot's house and they wanted to RAPE the angels. As if raping angels was even possible but who knew? So then Lot decided to send his two virgin daughters out to "please" the crowd but they didn't want to rape virgins. THey needed angels!! Then, the angels decided to blind the entire crowd of people who were shoving the door down to get to them. And this is taught right along with the Big Bang theory because it makes just as much sense?! LOL

And should I go on? I can assure you that each and every story in Genesis is as silly and insane as these have been. AND I AM SURE that my kids will learn about how God doesn't like people who rape angels in all their evolution classes at college because, frankly, why not teach the controversy, as IF there is a controversy here. Then they can decide for themselves and you can be assured that there will be many less Christers in the world. AMEN.

Re: Not a fan of the Abrahamic 'god'..
What I don't understand is how you can love this God?

9teen To answer your first question this subject is mentioned in the bible. Sorry I can't remember enough words to do a word search. But to the best of my memory the answer is that those people will be judged "in the natural." Meaning that to use the American Indian example. If one person in a village helped people and tried their best to avoid evil thoughts and actions then hopefully the Lord would accept them into heaven. The outcome for someone who did not do these things, would probably not look so good.

I don't just feel I made the best choice, I know I made the best choice. Basically I think that deep down your soul knows that you made the wrong choice and that is why you are so troubled and hostile. And jealous because you instinctively know that we have something real good that you don't have. But you do have one blessing which is that the Lord has still granted you: a little more time to avoid dying in your sins and being dragged down to hell.

So use it wisely, you could get hit by a bus tomorrow and then where would you be, "Seek and ye shall find."
