Came to this thread because of the "two suns" Nostradamus reference in one of the "pope resigning" threads, and it reminded me that about five weeks ago, my husband and I DID see what appeared to be two very bright and large sources of light in the sky about a half-hour from sunset. (I live just a few blocks east of C-470 in Littleton, Colorado, less than a mile from the Rocky Mountain foothills.) We were driving, and although there were clouds all around it, we could still see the sun, shining brightly as usual. Then, there was a break in the clouds to the left of the sun, and another very bright light appeared, creating the effect of two "suns."

Anyway, they were just as the OP described. (And, sorry, no, we don't have a camera phone.) One light was definitely the sun -- which has seemed to me to be MUCH brighter for the last couple of months, at least, than in previous years, BTW -- and the other light was also very bright (I would actually say just as bright as the sun) and elongated. Although it is hard for me to gauge distance when looking at the sky, when I raised by hand toward them, the distance between the two lights was slightly wider than the width of my hand. Again, as clouds were between them, I could not see if the lights were actually "connected", meaning it was just a distortion of the sun's light (of course?). However, to repeat, it did appear to be two separate lights, as one was definitely the sun and the other, as I said, was elongated.

My husband (who is 56-year-old engineer and thus not given to "fancy") said, "I never saw THAT before." I asked him if he could think of any explanation or if he thought it was just some kind of optical illusion or distortion, and he said, "I don't know what it is. I have no idea." Anyway, we just continued home in puzzlement, and that was it except for checking the news and GLP to see if anyone else noted it. As I saw no other reports about it,I just shrugged it off.

Anyway, OP, if you're "crazy", then so are my husband and I. And if anyone can offer an explanation, I would be glad to read it. Thanks.
