Revoke the obamaphone program and use the funds to protect children.

Much more important and cheaper over time.

I say do away with public schools all together. They produce the dumbest kids. Private schools out perform public schools. Home schooled kids do even better.

Give us our fucking half a trillion back that we spend on education every year and maybe we can find a better way to educate the kids.

Sure, many will end up fucking stupid, but that's no different than now.

Idea, put online schools study from home. There are a lot of people who enjoy the benefits of studying at home through online schools.

There are going to be a lot of military people coming back from Afghanistan soon. Many of those folks have specific training in urban warfare in close combat situations. Many of them are going to need jobs.

OP SUPPORTS ONLY OBAMA

OP fails to mention that he also said that it would cost nothing because he is certain there are volunteers (police, military, fire, civilians) that would be more than happy to receive training and get certifications for these positions.

He and MANY agree that there are more than enough people to volunteer their time to protect their/our/other's children.

So give up OP, stop trying to find a way to argue against the NRA (aka, the new boogeyman because Adam Lanza is NOT the boogeyman right Obots?)

Each community should come up with their own, school board-endorse, state-authorized program.

Volunteers from the community, preferably from the school district, who both pass background checks and have passed a "public comment" period in which anyone who has objections to the person guarding a school can make them.

Each district has its own schedule, but it coordinates with other schools to share information. That is, you don't want to broadcast when the guards will be at the school.

There are plenty of grandfathers in our community, trained hunters, farmers, former military, who would gladly guard their grandchildren's schools.

I think the problem with returning vets is that many of them have been around children who have been blown up, crushed, or shot, and also around children, or young people, who shoot weapons at them or are suicide bombers.

So THAT particular plan is fraught with difficulties.

But this general kind of plan would work well in a lone crazed gunman situatin.

But what about a Beslan type incident, where a group of terrorists take over a school? There is no viable answer to that. Unless the school janitor happens to be John McClain.

Many schools have had an armed police officer posted for quite a few years already.

It shouldn't cost anything really. That is simply that officer's "beat" that day. Local PD already has the staff. If they need to hire another, so be it. Not like they make 100k a year.

Even if it comes out of the district budget, to put things into perspective, "How much does it cost each school to employ one teacher...or janitor...or bus driver...or secretary...or specialist...or nurse...???"

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3820675

Do you not see how idiotic what you are saying is? If you do not have officers enforcing traffic laws, how do you think people will drive? If you are mad that you got a ticket, maybe you should have not be doing what you where doing. It is funny how people get mad at the laws when they get caught breaking them.

Now back to what this thread is about. If you have any questions as to what the plan that the NRA has offered they will, if it is not already up, post the plan on their website. This plan from my understanding will be ran at the state and local level, NOT BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. So you can not say how much it will or will not cost at this time, as each school will need different resources. But does protecting the youth really have a budget? Very sad if it does.

But as it was said in the press conference, gun free school zones scream to criminals to come do their business there. As they know people who abide to the laws will not be armed to protect themselves.

So by calling for more gun laws are you looking out for the people that abide by the law or for people that break the laws? It is a simply answer I hope you can figure it out.

Just take them off the street. If they have the time to hang out to catch granny doing 6 to 10 over. Their parasitic ass should be thrown in schools instead. “One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.” – Carl Sagan

True, there are plenty of spare cops for this task...no need to hire more. However, if they did this...we'd have less cops on the side of the road looking for people to ticket. That is a lot of income lost...can't have that. So screw the kids, they're on their own.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23948538

Yeah, it is totally the officer on the side of the road's fault you broke a law and got a ticket. They forced you to do something that has been deemed unsafe to you and the motorists around you just so they could get some extra scratch from teh taxpayer's pocket.

Our district and the police work together on this. They don't hire extra police, they just appropriate one of the extra rooms as an office and that's where some of the guys come to do their paperwork and have breaks. They are at the school regularly. They also park unused patrol cars in the lot. The presence helps. The county was paying for the officers anyway - why not keep some of them at the schools?
