You'd be surprised how common vitamin D deficiency can be. [ link to daction.org] Most doctors don't seem to be aware of it and they don't really learn up to date in nutrition stuff. Good one, AR! D3 deficiency is rampant! Yup. I learned the hard way when my newborn baby got jaundice years ago. That was quite a scare and my wife was freaking out. Had to do light therapy. My wife was taking prenatal vitamins but I was confused why it happened so I did a lot of researching and found out that pregnant mothers need 4000 IU a day compared to 400 IU that was recommended! Crazy. Thinking back, we got really sick from some kind of virus when my wife was pregnant and it turns out that taking vitamin D at the right dosage helps prevent that. Sucks. It had to be the worst case I've ever experienced. Just an FYI: D deficiency in pregnant women can cause a host of problems with the children. [ link to www.healthychild.com]
