Aloha doesn't translate directly into english. It is used for a lot of things, greetings, goodbyes, blessings, etc.

Thankyou, but does it really ever mean "I love you?" I ask because Obama put it in the context of something like "...for those of us from/in Hawaii, Aloha means 'I love you'."

If he had such a history in Hawaii he would/should know what it means. I never heard it used in the context of "I love you."

Okay, thank you; maybe I was making more of it than is warranted. Is there a link to an on-line source or dictionary that whould show that it is also used to say "I love you" in Hawaii?
