Mentally healthy people play games to have fun. Congratulations on helping to make your son mentally ill by convincing him games are to make winners and losers. I hope your gf is sterile. |
Intergalactic Diplomat User ID: 30141746 United States 12/21/2012 12:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I know all about the game, I use to play it myself. So I just added time to my account and he made some players on a realm. Quoting: concerned parent 1020585 So anyways, 3 months has past and his gametime is almost up and for Christmas he wants an expansion and more gametime. The problem is when I see him vs other people he sucks, even after 3 months of him playing constantly, I've watched him lately vs other players and lose constantly, he sucks at the game. Like anything my son does in life, if he sucks at it I stop sponsering him for it. I told him straight up that he's not good st the game and that I don't think its worth his time anymore nevUse he's not improving. Well when I told him that, one of his freinds was over, and apparently now its turned into a big deal that my son sucks at world of warcraft and my son thinks the game is somehow competitive and hes really down about it and aNts to keep practicing. Now, for almost everything else, when my son wants to 'practice' to get better its a no brained; let the kid practice,.. but this is fucking world of warcraft, its just so rediculously retarded that I cannot confront anyone in my normal life of the matter because its just straight up the stupidiest situation ever. I'm kind of milking the situation for what its worth, because I kind of like teasing him over it, but in reality, this game really means something to the kid, like it has some kind of prestige and somehow compliments him in a mature manor around his peers. My girlfriend doesn't even understand the situation at all, she just sees it as a kid playing a video game from time to time. To my kid, its like his fucking profession now. To me, its just plain retarded and I hope he figures that out on his own asap. after 3,000,000050000,0000 hours of playing time, my final conclusion is this: " playing WOW is to be condemned to mediocrity." might as well exist in RL! |

Based on what you wrote, your kid has bigger problems than Warcraft. You'll need to take a good long look in the mirror to find them. |

Perhaps if you took the kid outside and threw a ball, went hiking, caught some fish, etc. then he wouldn't turn into the idiotic loser his dad is. You spell like a 3rd grader and have the maturity of a 10 year old. Do him a favor and put him up for adoption, imbecile. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 1020585 Canada 12/21/2012 01:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The game has really consumed him, he use to go for several hour long bikerides with his good friends EVERYday after school, since he's been playing the game, he finds it more important and now those friends don't even bother with him anymore. It seems like he knows this too but continues to consider the game a huge priority over everything. I still manage to modivate him to continue to take part in his hockey, as I am am assistant coach on his team and if anything would be embarrassed if my son discontinued to show becUse of his lack of commitment. My girlfriend won't buy him the wow gametime because she quite frankly doesn't understand what it is, so my boy is at a crossroads with me continuing to support this Passion of his. |

Long time "World" of Warcraft player. (Account activated Nov 2004, not too many of us ;P) The fundamentals of this game are simple. You are introduced to a treadmill. The treadmill is updated with subsequent patches, which are usually bias on gear(armor items)... The model behind it at launch still holds true for the most part today. The problem with this, even after months, years of time invested(loosely using this term) it gives you the impression (illusion) of your character becoming more powerful. They are not. Simply... they are evolving with their environment at a competitive level. (For example, expansion packs introduce higher levels and more HP) Now days, the game has added a plethora of recycled video game ideas to keep the hardcore players with something to do because casuals have long moved on after the days of BC and Wrath. Now, man to man. Let it go... show him a modern, less time consuming form of entertainment. For instance, Star Craft II. A pick-up and go game is not detrimental to 1s well-being. Where an MMO is a full immersion into another world, that literally dictates all your time into it. A child should be developing in the real world versus a place that doesn't exist outside the monitor. I wish that someone had told me the consequences of spending 1's youth on a chair PK'ng or being CL of CoM (UO, RiP greatest MMO of All Time), but they didn't. My parents, like you, gave into my sad obsession and when one game's life extinguished I moved onto the next. These games are dangerous, many start choosing them over reality all together. As an adult, that is your choice if you have a financially secure and stable future, but as a child... its not always as easy to see the long term effects. Tell him this... In time, when he is older and more mature. There will be a better game than WoW. 1 that he can start when the game first launches, fresh. 1 he can learn with the rest of the populace and not feel like all he is doing catching up, instead of enjoying himself. Because after all, what are games but fun. 1 Day... U will find what U R l00kin' for. |
