Why do people care so much about the Mayans?

They are so soft and cuddly, you see.

There are pyramids and ancient cities ALL OVER the place down there. (most still covered in jungle over-growth) It is amazing and get's you really thinking. Add in that with the fact the folks are hard-working, respectful and loving makes it hard not to care about them.
