Is My Tab Damaged Now?... Okay, I'm gonna *pretend* that I got what you said, and that your (deep...!*caugh*) reply made sense... Here goes: Look, friend, the tablet WASN'T even switched ON! The issue is NOT about needing to re-set it, but more about whether today's power surge did any damage to my tab! To give some perspective, I am using my tablet RIGHT NOW!!!!! You understand...? As I said earlier, I was re-charging my tablet today, when we *suddenly* had a power-surge—as described in the opener. Again, the tab was NOT actually in use at the time; it was switched OFF, yet it was in "RE-CHARGING" mode, so in terms of being connected to the grid, there WAS an electrical current going INTO the tablet at the time of the surge , yet it wasn't "ACTIVE" in any way. |

Is My Tab Damaged Now?... Usually, devices such as your tablet have a voltage conversion happening in the transformer portion of your charger. (Converting AC to DC voltage at a pretty constant 5 Volts +/-) This circuitry is usually protected by a transistor or diode (sometimes a fuse) which is there to stop any voltage spikes from reaching the DC circuit on the board. So, if you did have a surge Most likely the power adapter sustained the damage. Do you have ANY charge on the tablet? If so, what does it do when you try to power it up? What kind of a tablet? One of these days... A *REAL* rain is gonna come and wash all this scum off the streets. |

Is My Tab Damaged Now?... I just read (after posting) that you're using your tablet right now... So that's a good sign. I can say with about 90% certainty that it was not damaged. If it were, it would have blown a transistor, diode, capacitor, or even a track if it took the full AC voltage. The reason I say 90% rather than being 100% positive is that the "extra" DC voltage may have crept through before the circuit clamped down in protection or response to the higher or AC voltage. This surge in DC voltage may have been enough to damage your other circuitry, but not "kill" the device. Things to look for.... Audio works? Wifi Works? Bluetooth works? If that is fine, the tablet is safe. Check the power adapter for the correct voltage on the USB side before plugging it back into the tablet. :-) One of these days... A *REAL* rain is gonna come and wash all this scum off the streets. |

Quoting: Travis Bickle So, if you did have a surge Most likely the power adapter sustained the damage. Do you have ANY charge on the tablet? If so, what does it do when you try to power it up? What kind of a tablet? SO SORRY FOR KEEPING YOU WAITING, TRAVIS! MANY THANKS for your cool reply! Now, to answer your questions:- Dude?, I DO have "charge" on my tab. It is fully charged now, as it is a good one and doesn't take that long to reach 100% full. To be honest, after the first surge, I just said "f*ck it!", and continued charging, regardless of any other possible power surges—which we didn't have, btw! The tablet is workng FINE as fa as I can tell; been here HOURS bashing all the Doom-tards, etc. LOL!!! ABOUT MY TABLET: My tablet is manufactured by a French company named 'ARCHOS'. I have the 7-inch model. It has a good, 1GHz CPU, but has always been prone to crashing...something like one crash per every 5 hours! THAT is probably the worst thing about it, apart from the fact that its Android OS "History" function doesn't give you ALL the threads that I go on in any given GLP session...I wonder WHY not...? Also, a FULL battery charge gives me a nice 9-hour session on GLP, using Wi-Fi!!! The funny thing is that I'm NEVER on for THAT long, anyway!!! Please keep the replies coming, folks! Thanks!!! |

If that is fine, the tablet is safe. Check the power adapter for the correct voltage on the USB side before plugging it back into the tablet. :-) Hi again, Travis! Hey, I just ran a few checks regarding the functions you pointed out:- •The tablet's audio STILL works! •Obviously, the Wi-Fi is working—using it NOW! •Bluetooth...?, not sure—never use it. I guess I CAN click the "Bluetooth Button" and see if it lights up still, huh?... •As for the power adaptor check, you mentioned...well I don't know how to carry-out such checks; it takes a normal "adaptor-type" jack, NOT a USB jack, though...The power adaptor itself, doesn't have a voltage adjustment on it; it's probably 5 Volts—as you said. I'll probably take it to 'Newtech', near the new hospital over here, and see what they think. Hey, I was going there anyway, to ask them to do something about installing a program into the tablet, so that I can start watching YouTube vids on it again. For SOME reason, it stopped playing YouTubes last summer, 2012....I also need to buy an 8 Gig memory card from them, too. ...please wait! |

Is My Tab Damaged Now?... Hey, Travis, my man! The BIG Bluetooth button on the widget just lit-up when I clicked it!!! I hope this means that tablet is okay...! ATTENTION ALL TECH OWNERS: Folks, I STRONGLY recmmend NOT charging your gadgets AFTER sundown—ESPECIALLY now that we're so close to Christmas, and as demand for power spikes, MORE surges CAN be expected!!! Thanks, friends! ![]() |

Is My Tab Damaged Now?... BUT, WORST OF ALL!: At the time the power surge hit, I had my Tablet plugged-into the mains socket, because I was re-charging its battery!!!!! URGENT QUESTION TO GLP TECH-EXPERTS: Did today's power-surge do damage to my tablet??? It wasn't actually switched ON, but it WAS in "RE-CHARGING" mode... 'Merica?...I'M PISSED!!! ![]() Buy one of these, it will save you next time [link to www.amazon.com] |
