Yeah... I've seen that before. But the image they have there is pretty different from just your standard cranial deformation.

These are pretty extreme, even to have been self inflicted at an early age. It takes a long time for such procedures to 'take' and some of these skulls belonged to children.

Here's a far out 'what if'---perhaps these beings are the result of space aliens mating with humans? And the fad for skull deformities started as others attempted to imitate the aliens, who no doubt demonstrated their advanced knowledge and were considered superior by the natives?
