Call of Duty for a 5 year old - WTF? | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 12365432 United States 12/21/2012 05:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We just had a mass shooting, yet we tell them it's okay to shoot people in a virtual world. I agree that it doesn't necessarily make you a bad or violent person.I was playing doom and rise of the triad at maybe 8-9 and I'm a super easy going anti-violence guy but still I don't think it's a good idea.Things are a little different now. Everybody plays these games now it's huge, and everybody should be well aware that we have a problems with gun violence that need fixing.Letting children playing call of duty isn't the way to fix that. |

Look at this whores video, she has a big fan base of little girls and this is the crap this girls enjoy listening to |

Quoting: FuzzleFace I've played all sorts of shooting games, didn't start till I was 14, and graphics were so poor and cartoony back then, it couldn't have the same extreme effect of desensitization as these new shooting games. I'm 30 now, and playing one of the recent COD's I was alarmed for the youth of today, some of the scenes in these games, and with Hi-Def TV's and incredibly detailed and life-like graphics, I just can't imagine how much it fucks with children's emotional development. I think you've hit the nail on the head. I used to play games in the arcades when I was younger but there's a world of difference between the likes of Street Fighter and Double Dragon in the old days compared to the brutal realism of COD/Battlefield 3 etc.. today. There's also a big difference between a 12/13 year old playing it and a 5 year old who is still developing basic life concepts. I'm certainly not the type of person who thinks these games will turn people into murderers or spree killers (I played lots of video games well into my twenties and haven't even had so much as a parking ticket) but I do worry about the effect these games could have on such young, developing minds. |

Ever heard of this thing called the world wide web. Children nowadays have access to porn, violence, among other disturbing things. They can also access the same R rated movies. But back to the topic, it is pretty strange for a 5 year old child to get a Call of Duty game. Nintendo Wii has some awesome games for kids, parents should really pick appropriate ones. And when they are a little more older, parents should learn about controlling content. That still wouldn't protect them. They can go out and access the net on another network. Strange times. |

Also, remember how popular a game like Wolfenstein 3D was on the PC? How was that game any different than modern day Call of Duty? It was a very popular first-person shooter that featured blood/gore and your character shooting/killing other humans. We were exposed to the same type of games that exist today, just with graphics that were appropriate for the technological age of the time. I don't see any issue with the games themselves. If there is any 'issue' it is the lackadaisical nature of parenting today that enables young children to have access to material/content that should be reserved for adults. |

'fucking Wolftenstein' ??? Does that game upset you that you have to precede it with 'fucking'? Maybe you should watch a few YouTube videos of the game to spark your memory of how much gore and blood there was. That game was every bit as realistic to us in the mid-90's context as current games are now to gamers, it's all relative to the respective time period that the technology yields. We loved those games then because they were more realistic than anything that came before it - just like people feel now with games like Call Of Duty... In another 5-10 years there will be even more realistic simulations/games. Are you going to maintain the same butthurt attitude in the future and proclaim that these next generation games on the horizon are completely different from 'fucking Call of Duty' from 10 years prior? Hopefully you get the point. |

The experience is so graphic. visceral and much more involving than a movie. I'm sure this same dad wouldn't let his son watch an 18 cert movie, so why are games seen so differently? However, he's no future Adam Lanza, or any other psychopath/patsy you can pull out of the bag. My children all receive tons of attention and love from me. I teach them the importance of humanity, and moral values. They understand the value of life. They also have inherited empathy and rely a lot on their gut feelings and conscience. I have no fears of my sons or daughters becoming rogue killers in any way. If anything, because they're allowed to play such games and because I keep things real with them and have given them a solid moral base, they would be the ones who would stand up to a guy on a rampage with a gun in their school and try to save the lives of others. My children would be the ones who knew to think and act quickly in that kind of a situation. You can't attribute people doing the things they do on video games alone. There are a number of things that can add up to make the attacker personality. Lack of parental guidance being the biggest one. True chemical imbalances within the brain. Broken families. Being severely abused as a child. But to blame it solely on a video game, when almost all media nowadays depicts the same things, or worse, is asinine. Don't be afraid to let go. |
