Yeah, there's lots of dynamo flashlights, even some with a built in solar cell, but what's unique is that this gravity device eliminates the cranking. Try cranking for 30 minutes and you'll see that it's a pain, and then what if you need a light right away?

I guess they've made a little gear box to make the weight turn to crank it instead?

you know what this is? this is some BS! they were given money to design one thing, but they used it to do something else. and guess what? now they need more money.

at $5 ? Let me get enough dough i'll buy everyone I know on to ease power bills ... i'd use it right now instead of the lights we have ....

they need a fund raising or some gov what ya call it, to mass produce and put in production they need start up capital

With most of todays technology going toward maknig new wepons/ways to spy on its peoples/smaller cell phones, Its Ideas and inventions like this that give me hope for a technologically better future

No, but it's easier and cheaper.

The "gravity" part is a bit of a misnomer. The energy comes from humans lifting the bag of rocks/sand.

Problem with the ones at the E-bay link is the rechargeable battery in the unit goes bad rather quick. So you wind it and it might only last 5 min tops after a few months of use. After 2 years you have to wind it contently to get any juice out of it.

* leave the lights in the sun to charge
