Weird that we can look back at the Clinton years as the halcyon days... It's been a nightmare since he left office.

Is it just me, or did the post-Clinton years spawn the rise of the Gen X Yuppies? I miss the real people who used to live in my neighborhood, now it's all a bunch of Suburban-driving 40-45 yr olds with 2 kids and a 300k house looking down their noses at those of us who are trying to figure out how the fuck people dumber than us managed us to do so much better financially.

I agree Op,our world DID end as we knew it in 2000.

I made a lot of money in the nineties. Nothing to show for it now.

Walking to school, no matter what the weather.

Running till you were out of breath .
Laughing so hard that your stomach hurt.
Jumping on the bed. Pillow fights.
Spinning around, getting dizzy and falling down
was cause for giggles.
Being tired from playing.... Remember that?

The worst embarrassment was being picked last
for a team.

War was a card game.

Water balloons were the ultimate weapon.

Baseball cards in the spokes transformed any
bike into a motorcycle.

Eating Kool-aid powder.



Remember when...

There were two types of sneakers for girls and
boys (Keds & PF Flyers)and the only time you
wore them at school, was for "gym."

It wasn't odd to have two or three "best"
friends.

When nobody owned a purebred dog.

When a quarter was a decent allowance, and
another quarter a miracle.
When milk went up one cent and everyone talked
about it for weeks? When you'd reach into a
muddy gutter for a penny.


When you got your windshield cleaned, oil
checked, and gas pumped, without asking, for
free, every time. And, you didn't pay for air.
And, you got trading stamps to boot!

Remember when..

When laundry detergent had free glasses, dishes
or towels hidden inside the box. When nearly
everyone's mom was at home when the kids got
there. When it took five minutes for the TV to
warm up, if you even had one. When your Mom wore
nylons that came in two pieces.

It was magic when dad would "remove" his thumb.

When it was considered a great privilege to be
taken out to dinner at a real restaurant with
your parents.
When girls neither dated nor kissed until late
high school, if then.
When all of your male teachers wore neckties and
female teachers had their hair done.
When they threatened to keep kids back a grade
if they failed ..and did! When being sent to the
principal's office was nothing compared to the
fate that awaited a misbehaving student at home.
Basically, we were in fear for our lives but it
wasn't because of drive-by shootings, drugs,
gangs, etc. Our parents and grandparents were a
much bigger threat! and some of us are still
afraid of them!!! Didn't that feel good.. just
to go back and say,

Yeah, I remember that!

Decisions were made by going
"eeny-meeny-miney-mo." Mistakes were corrected
by simply exclaiming, "do over!" "Race issue"
meant arguing about who ran the fastest.

Remember when...

Money issues were handled by whoever was the
banker in "Monopoly." The worst thing you could
catch from the opposite sex was cooties. It was
unbelievable that dodgeball wasn't an Olympic
event. Having a weapon in school, meant being
caught with a slingshot.


Nobody was prettier than Mom.

Scrapes and bruises were kissed and made better.
Taking drugs meant orange-flavored chewable
aspirin. Ice cream was considered a basic food
group. Getting a foot of snow was a dream come
true. Abilities were discovered because of a
"double-dare."


Older siblings were the worst tormentors, but
also the fiercest protectors.

If you can remember most or all of these, then
you have LIVED!!!!

Someone explain to me why a Cherry Coke back in 1986 was such an awesome treat, and the local beach had soft serve ice cream cones and now they have friggin' popsicles in a freezer, and I am sad because I look at my kids and I can tell by their faces that their childhoods are nothing as cool as mine was 30 yrs ago. Man you should have been around in the 60's. I remember before Beatles. Elvis was into his crooning stage. He was like a Frank Sinatra ugh! Then those british guys hit and it changed everything culturally for all age groups. What a shift. I am waiting for another shift but stuff seems to disappoint nowadays.

Perhaps we're exposed to more of the evils and are now aware of them, since mainstream TV was really all we had. But that's been a good awakening.

I do believe things are worse now, probably the economy and one world world governemnt emerging.

Well when the 90's ended and it turned 2k i lost my mother to cancer, personal doom so how do you think i view it. Load of fucking shit, was only 16. Yes life is shit for some.

College in the 90s was pretty awesome as well. Bob Marley - Legend was the prototypical party album, until someone pulled out the White Zombie - Devil Music Vol 1.

I am truly sorry. Never knew my dad, lost my mom at 30, so I know the heartache. I don't associate with a time though. I just think how fortunate so many others are and they don't even know it.

I felt the change exactly on January 1, 2000.

Call it intuition, maybe?

But from that date forward, our society's culture lost its "soul".

I don't know how else to explain it.

I mean, it was like in the 1990s you painted a picture because you wanted everyone else to enjoy it.

Starting 1/1/2000, it's almost as it ever aspect of life became commercial.

I'm not saying the 90s weren't materialistic...it just didn't pervade every aspect of society like it does today.

I'm not a professional musician but I do know a thing or two about music. And I can tell you that for the past 12 years, mostly all music in every singe genre has only been written to appeal to the maximum amount of audiences in the shortest amount of time. In short, shit.

The internet certainly has something to do with the dying music business...
