Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29710001 I miss it all.... The music, the movies, the tv shows, the people I can't even remember any wars except the first gulf war. And from what I remember, it seemed clean-cut and finished in an efficient manner. No crazy people shooting up theaters and schools (until Columbine in 1999, but that was pretty much the end of the 90's anyway). Above all, the musical revolution was amazing. Kurt Cobain changed the tide of history by bringing alternative music to the forefront of society all over the world. Rock was no longer sung by the "cool" douche bags with the hot girls dancing around in music videos.("Rag Doll", "Cherry Pie" etc.) Rock meant something now, it was poetry set to incredible, powerful music sung by the geeks, nerds, dweebs.... They no longer looked like rock stars, but like ordinary people who got out of bed and grabbed a guitar and sang about their hurt... I miss it Will such a revolution ever happen again? |

Quoting: joe mamma Perhaps we're exposed to more of the evils and are now aware of them, since mainstream TV was really all we had. But that's been a good awakening. I do believe things are worse now, probably the economy and one world world governemnt emerging. I felt the change exactly on January 1, 2000. Call it intuition, maybe? But from that date forward, our society's culture lost its "soul". I don't know how else to explain it. I mean, it was like in the 1990s you painted a picture because you wanted everyone else to enjoy it. Starting 1/1/2000, it's almost as it ever aspect of life became commercial. I'm not saying the 90s weren't materialistic...it just didn't pervade every aspect of society like it does today. I'm not a professional musician but I do know a thing or two about music. And I can tell you that for the past 12 years, mostly all music in every singe genre has only been written to appeal to the maximum amount of audiences in the shortest amount of time. In short, shit. The internet certainly has something to do with the dying music business... I hate to sound cliche but our society has lost its soul... 100% I remember listening to top of the pops every friday in the 90's up until the point where nothing new exciting or original was appearing. and yeah, it feels like the colour slowly drained up until 2010 where society as a whole feels monochrome. |

Rock was still alive and a lot of grunge type stuff. We didn't have American Idol contestants or Justin Bieber. * Movies were original and entertaining. Every weekend I would go to the theater with my family and we had fun. * Gay marriage didn't exist and homosexuality hadn't become trendy yet. * Everyone wasn't paranoid and super serious about everything like they are today. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17431247 Most people I deal with on a daily basis are very materialistic, pretentious, and judge others based on STUFF. It's not even the size of your bank account that they care about. It is material possessions that they expect you to show off like they do. No wonder people are drowning in tens of thousands of dollars in credit card debt. We live in this super shallow, show off society. I don't know if it's always been that way, but ever since I have entered adulthood I've noticed it when dealing with co-workers, family members, and friends. The Apple craze really gets on my nerves. I have a couple of co-workers who buy a new iPad AND a new iPhone every time a new "generation" comes out when their old phone works just fine. My brain must be wired differently than theirs. I just find it pathetic. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 12089829 Canada 12/22/2012 08:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The reason people miss the 90s (and times prior to that) is because humanity, even though not perfect, had hope, optimism, vision, and felt happy and somewhat good about the future. The reason things went to shit is because of things that happened in the late 90s (97 - 99). I believe humanity lost its battle with the ETs and we slowly became enslaved as they grabbed power and control. Ever since then we become more poisoned, monitored more, more controlled. Basically we are being handed over on a plate. Our cowardly leaders sold humanity out, because they thought a war would have more causalities. So those pieces of shit aliens hide and call the shots like the cowards they are. They have failed to control the minds of the free and powerful, they have failed eradicating them. Dec 21st was the end. The end of their grip on humanity. The end of their domination. |

Men and women were friends and equals. We fell in love in high school, got married. There were no worries what so ever about jobs, money, owning a home or car. We were good clean honest kids in scouts, church, volunteering, doing chores for parents, working jobs after school. We had no worries, life was so good, friends were so sweet and dear, love was everywhere, we all danced, sang and had great times talking late into the night about love, friendship, who was dating, getting married and living happily ever after. Complete contentment. Food was coffee/pie at dennys or local pizza parlor. Clothes jeans and tshirts, simple. Entertainment carrying over albumns to each others houses on weekends for parties and couples slow dancing with the lights off. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30544260 Increasing world population has nothing to do with "how things are are". There is room for billions and billions more. It's just a matter of how resources and communities are managed, coupled with utilizing KNOWN technologies that are being suppressed. Just think of all the dam's that need not be in place for the generation of power. Think of how nice it would be to be able to close ALL coal fired power plants. There is more energy in the first 300 miles of atmosphere, than all the power that has been produced since man first learned how. Tesla's already proven this. If Africa was treated right, they could grow enough food for the entire world. Instead, they are kept in 3rd world status for political reasons. It's all a game. Please research and educate yourself. The modern Western education has made the last two generations, into ignorant subjects. |

You were just young and nieve, and still had hopes and dreams. Like everyone from every generation. I gonna do a list of the things that I remember.... Remember when marilyn manson was thought to be the anti-christ, and actually unlike people accused today actually looked the part? Remember when we were at war with Iraq The FIRST TIME?? Remember when kurt cobain ODed on heroin? Remember when sagging your ass outta your pants was "cool". Remember when drug dealers and all wannabes had pagers. That also hung from their ass. Remember when someone would get stabbed over a raiders starter jacket? Remember when the rodney king riots were? Remember when the world trade center got bombed... again the FIRST TIME. Remember when the unibomber sent explosives in the mail and killed random ass people for no reason? Remember when OJ simpson a well known person got away with murder? Things haven't gone to shit, they have always been shitty. You are just now noticing it because you are older and the exuberance of youth has warn off. Your great grandparents thought that elvis was the devil. You grandparents thought punk rock was the devil. You parents thought marylin manson was the devil. New parents today think that Lady gaga is the devil..... |
