life was so much better in the 90s

1975
The year I want to return to.
Saying all the time "Clarence, take me back!"
Men and women were friends and equals.
We fell in love in high school, got married.
There were no worries what so ever about jobs, money, owning a home or car. We were good clean honest kids in scouts, church, volunteering, doing chores for parents, working jobs after school. We had no worries, life was so good, friends were so sweet and dear, love was everywhere, we all danced, sang and had great times talking late into the night about love, friendship, who was dating, getting married and living happily ever after.
Complete contentment.

Food was coffee/pie at dennys or local pizza parlor.
Clothes jeans and tshirts, simple.
Entertainment carrying over albumns to each others houses on weekends for parties and couples slow dancing with the lights off.

I lived the 90's, and I feel glad and lucky every time I realize it.

With an ever increasing world population it's only going to get worse.

Hide and seek at dusk. The Good Humor man,

kickball, dodge ball. Mother May I?
Red Rover and Roly Poly.
Hula Hoops.
Running through the sprinkler.
The smell of the sun and licking salty lips.
Wax lips and mustaches.
An ice cream cone on a warm summer night,
Chocolate or vanilla or strawberry or maybe
butter pecan.
A cherry coke from the fountain at the corner
drug store.



Remember when...

Watching Saturday Morning cartoons... short commercials
Davy Crockett, Hopalong Cassidy, Junior Frolics,
The Three Stooges, and Bugs, or staying up for Gunsmoke



Or back further,

Listening to Superman or The Lone Ranger on the radio.
When around the corner seemed far away,
and going downtown seemed like going somewhere.
A million mosquito bites. Sticky fingers. Cops and Robbers,
Cowboys and Indians, Zorro. Climbing trees, Building
igloos out of snow banks.


Walking to school, no matter what the weather.

Running till you were out of breath .
Laughing so hard that your stomach hurt.
Jumping on the bed. Pillow fights.
Spinning around, getting dizzy and falling down
was cause for giggles.
Being tired from playing.... Remember that?

The worst embarrassment was being picked last
for a team.

War was a card game.

Water balloons were the ultimate weapon.

Baseball cards in the spokes transformed any
bike into a motorcycle.

Eating Kool-aid powder.



Remember when...

There were two types of sneakers for girls and
boys (Keds & PF Flyers)and the only time you
wore them at school, was for "gym."

It wasn't odd to have two or three "best"
friends.

When nobody owned a purebred dog.

When a quarter was a decent allowance, and
another quarter a miracle.
When milk went up one cent and everyone talked
about it for weeks? When you'd reach into a
muddy gutter for a penny.


When you got your windshield cleaned, oil
checked, and gas pumped, without asking, for
free, every time. And, you didn't pay for air.
And, you got trading stamps to boot!

Remember when..

When laundry detergent had free glasses, dishes
or towels hidden inside the box. When nearly
everyone's mom was at home when the kids got
there. When it took five minutes for the TV to
warm up, if you even had one. When your Mom wore
nylons that came in two pieces.

It was magic when dad would "remove" his thumb.

When it was considered a great privilege to be
taken out to dinner at a real restaurant with
your parents.
When girls neither dated nor kissed until late
high school, if then.
When all of your male teachers wore neckties and
female teachers had their hair done.
When they threatened to keep kids back a grade
if they failed ..and did! When being sent to the
principal's office was nothing compared to the
fate that awaited a misbehaving student at home.
Basically, we were in fear for our lives but it
wasn't because of drive-by shootings, drugs,
gangs, etc. Our parents and grandparents were a
much bigger threat! and some of us are still
afraid of them!!! Didn't that feel good.. just
to go back and say,

Yeah, I remember that!

Decisions were made by going
"eeny-meeny-miney-mo." Mistakes were corrected
by simply exclaiming, "do over!" "Race issue"
meant arguing about who ran the fastest.

Remember when...

Money issues were handled by whoever was the
banker in "Monopoly." The worst thing you could
catch from the opposite sex was cooties. It was
unbelievable that dodgeball wasn't an Olympic
event. Having a weapon in school, meant being
caught with a slingshot.


Nobody was prettier than Mom.

Scrapes and bruises were kissed and made better.
Taking drugs meant orange-flavored chewable
aspirin. Ice cream was considered a basic food
group. Getting a foot of snow was a dream come
true. Abilities were discovered because of a
"double-dare."


Older siblings were the worst tormentors, but
also the fiercest protectors.

If you can remember most or all of these, then
you have LIVED!!!!

Weird that we can look back at the Clinton years as the halcyon days... It's been a nightmare since he left office.

Since the turn of the millennium everything has gone to shit. Most of this shittiness can be blamed on the internet and technology in general, but a lot of it is also political and social. I would write a book about it but I'm too pissed off.

+1: There was a different consciousness in spite of him not being exemplary in his personal conduct. Simple example: I used to read the book section of the Sunday paper and the book reviews were very rich from political to religious reviews. There was generally a sense that you could look at tomorrow as another opportunity.

But I do miss those days for my own reasons...nintendo as a luxury...being outdoors with friends.

Remember when sagging your ass outta your pants was "cool".

Remember when drug dealers and all wannabes had pagers. That also hung from their ass.

Remember when someone would get stabbed over a raiders starter jacket?

Remember when the rodney king riots were?

Remember when the world trade center got bombed... again the FIRST TIME.

Remember when the unibomber sent explosives in the mail and killed random ass people for no reason?

Remember when OJ simpson a well known person got away with murder?


Things haven't gone to shit, they have always been shitty. You are just now noticing it because you are older and the exuberance of youth has warn off.

Increasing world population has nothing to do with "how things are are".

There is room for billions and billions more. It's just a matter of how resources and communities are managed, coupled with utilizing KNOWN technologies that are being suppressed.

Just think of all the dam's that need not be in place for the generation of power. Think of how nice it would be to be able to close ALL coal fired power plants.

There is more energy in the first 300 miles of atmosphere, than all the power that has been produced since man first learned how. Tesla's already proven this.

If Africa was treated right, they could grow enough food for the entire world. Instead, they are kept in 3rd world status for political reasons.

It's all a game. Please research and educate yourself. The modern Western education has made the last two generations, into ignorant subjects.
