Why should they hesitate to do the clean up.

Most of them will be dead soon because of the radaition they already got. May as well get some compensation before they die.

I know some here who fear the new guy will use the back door to get cheap labour for Fukushima. I notice even more considering it a distinct possibility once the notion is aired to them.

Constitution? That's what the new guy (Abe) set out to change since before the results of the recent election were known. He wants to fiddle with Article 9 so that the way is open for Japan to re-militarize. To me this is a sly way of getting national-service back so that TEPCO can have an endless supply of donkeys to slave away at Fukushima.

To paraphrase you a bit, Atom Boy, you stated that TEPCO can't get enough workers because the pay is too low, the living conditions unacceptable, and the work is too dangerous. ... Well, of course.

If workers were paid enough, and living conditions made acceptable, and tangible steps were made to lessen the dangers, then they wouldn't need to rely on burned-out bums from Skid Row acting the parts of 'workers' at FNPS. Of course conscripted labour changes everything - for the better for them, and for the worse for everyone else. Just so a bunch of criminals can keep getting their money, they'd sacrifice everyone else's kids and the country's future.

Everywhere THEY've tried that, the country's been taken over by belligerent immigrants who are a parasitic drain on the host nation.

Japan's taking in more and more foreign workers because home-grown workers of the same capacity are more expensive, and Japan is paying the price for it already. Contract drivers from China doing the routes cheaper than the Japanese - falling asleep at the wheel. Cheap Chinese pilots pissing off the ATCs and dangerously doing as they please. Care staff and nurses just doing the bare minimum so they can send money to another country. It's a slippery slope. Of course TEPCO etc will push for encouraging millions of foreigners to come here because it's going to save them a lot, and they can control people through their regulating who gets which jobs.

I saw an interesting TV report on that issue. You do have a problem with that over there. Not enough young people and a restrictive policy that makes it hard to get workers from other countries.

However, in the long run, I wonder if a smaller population is better for your country. Your land area is not that big and you are in danger from encroaching oceans. Do you have enough energy resources? And look at the damage from that plant. Could other nuclear plants get harmed as well from similar scenarios?

I think we should allow more Japanese to immigrate here if their country finds itself more challenged.
