If you want to know what would happen, just try reading about the fall of SOuth Vietnam in 1975. Fearing the Commies would shoot everyone, everyone panicked and when the US tried to evacuate top officers from SOuth Vietnam, their planes sent to rescue them are raked by the machine gun fire form SOUTH Vietnamese - the people who were anngry that they were not included in the "save list"

If a single big starship was to be built, it would be terrorist nuked well before anywhere near completion and would be bedeviled by strikes throughout.

The only way to save people would be to build a whole fleet of small ships that could contain the resources to construct one bigg ship once underway.

This way, the faster that everyone built, the more ships and the more would be saved.

Consider the world record for ship construction. It is still held by the people of Venice from the Middle Ages. The whole of Venice was under seign and they needed to build warships to break the blockade, but all they had was piles of uncut trees and iron ore form which to make nails. Working around the clock, they were able to design, build and finish a man-of-war EVERY 14 days or so. Even using power tools, nearly a year is required nowadays to construct a "tall ship" let alone cast and construct ranks of cannon.

It was hypothetical. But it was a weird show with having a neutron star heading towards earth. It was just a weird scenario IMO.

it wouldn't have to come anywhere near us. just enter the solar system would be enough. it'd fuck us up good and proper.

It would have to be close enough to penetrate our ozone layer. The closest neutron star is estimated to not come within 500,000 light years of us. So....right now we are safe for now.
