The FDA must wait two months before they make final their decision regarding the fate of the frankenfish, but through their study they have determined that the genetically engineered animal, the “AquAdvantage,” is safe enough to be sold. The fish, a hybrid of the Pacific Chinook salmon and a ray-finned creature called the eelpout, is engineered to grow twice as normal as traditional salmon. Once the frankenfish is approved for good, AquaBounty will be able to offer meatier fish able to feed more people. ... “This is a radical new technology. We need very good, careful, close regulation, and we just don't have that. We can't be assured of the safety of any of these genetically engineered organisms,” he said." [link to rt.com] Um. Yeah. NO. Nice find. Five Stars — read for knowledge, not answers. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 27352798 United States 12/22/2012 11:29 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We can only hope that they will run out of money: <<< Developing the frankenfish has so far cost AquaBounty nearly two decades of research and tens of millions of dollars. Only weeks ago, though, the very fate of the fish was put at risk. While awaiting news from the FDA in early December, AquaBounty CEO Ron Stotish told the Associated Press that length delays had nearly drained the company from all their money. "It's threatening our very survival," Stotish told the AP. "We only have enough money to survive until January 2013, so we have to raise more. But the unexplained delay has made raising money very difficult." >>> GENETICALLY ENGINEERED FOOD IS SLOW DEATH |

I wonder why? << The AquaAdvantage salmon has an added growth hormone from the Pacific Chinook salmon that allows the fish to produce growth hormone all year long. The engineers were able to keep the hormone active by using another gene from an eel-like fish called an ocean pout that acts like an “on” switch for the hormone. Typical Atlantic salmon produce the growth hormone for only part of the year. >> [link to myfox8.com] |

Maybe its finally time to just go vegetarian. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 961432 So then you had better stay away from corn, soy, tomatoes, canola oil, potatoes, flax, papaya, squash, sugar beets, rice, dairy products from animals fed with GM grain, well, you might as well just stop eating. My solution is to eat organic. It's very expensive but cheaper than being chronically sick. (Did you know that the cafeteria at Monsanto headquarters serves only ORGANIC food??) You could also grow your own food, or some of it, using heirloom seed. Buy organic grains in bulk. Cook with coconut oil. You can also find some foods at the dollar stores that are imported from Europe (which does not allow gmo's). |

Esoteric Morgan ...in awe of many things User ID: 26943919 United States 12/22/2012 12:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Eating anything genetically-modified to double growth cannot be a sound practice. Look at the debacle created by the cross-pollination of GM crops to non-GM crops; has science NOT learned anything from this? Then there's the growth-hormone issue. Have we not learned anything about the use of growth-hormones in food...first exposed by Geraldo Rivera some 50 years ago? ================ Well, I don't eat fish anymore, anyway. Too much mercury, too much radiation...there's no way to really know what you're getting. We are heading towards a time when NO FOOD is safe, organic or otherwise. THAT is what modern 'science' has done for humanity. It's a conundrum, which consumers cannot do anything about. -- TRUST THE PLAN -- .......WWG1WGA...... ____________________________ still in awe of many things |

Kill off the natural fish with radiation and then replace with frankenfish that probably have all kinds of dangerous things waiting for human consumption. Just another day in the wonderful world eh!
