| The old one User ID: 27702819 12/22/2012 08:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | At the age of 47, I finally gave in and had my upper right wisdom tooth removed on November 29th. It had broken throught the gum a few yeas ago. I was having a lot of pain in my jaw,ear and headaches. No problems with removal, was awake through procedure and felt fine. The left wisdom tooth is not causing any problems, so Dentist said not to worry about it. Thank goodness I only have upper wisdom teeth. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 2518431 12/22/2012 08:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Wisdom teeth have nothing to do with actual wisdom or regrowing teeth It's just the result of a silly translation. 'Verstand' is Dutch for 'wisdom', whereas 'verstaand' translates as 'far standing' or 'far out'. I've had mine pulled since about a year or so.. (at 23) Before that, they would hurt every once in a while and my gums would get irritated and sensitive for a couple of days. After I woke up one day with a lot of pain when i had something planned that i'd been looking out for for a long time i got sick of it and had them pulled. (had it done by a jaw-sergeon instead of a dentist, because i'd heard some nasty stories about incapable dentists) One or maybe two nights of bad sleep and about 5 days to a week of keeping the wounds clean and eating carefully and their gone. Havent missed them since Don't know if i would have done the same thing if it would have cost me a lot of money though.. I guess in that case i would have tried to ride it out a little longer.. But systematicly taking a lot of painkillers for a long time is not worth it imo |

Yes I read the link and will forward it to his email. He's rinsing with warm salt water for now so that's good. Also mentioned this product Essential Oxygen 'brushing rinse' 1% food grade peroxide could help too (just set him up with some a few days ago) for the back of the throat possible spread. Probably best to be consistent for now and if it does get worse or return dentist it is, I guess. However there are guys posting here who say they've gotten themselves through the episodes and are now without problems. How do you suppose they got past pericoronitis? Seems to suggest a person doesn't always have a condition that heads south, no? That perhaps proper management doesn't have to result in an extracted tooth. From reading the above posters a person can have anything from rot to a good outcome. All I'm saying is that there are no hard & fast rules in diagnosing. :) |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30650519 dont do it. put up with the pain, do not put any injections in the gums as this will kill the root. if your son can put up with the pain and allow the tooth the dissintegrate then he will grow a new one. but if its removed then it will never grow again. ![]() Whoa there captain! Now you're scaring me. Allowing a tooth to 'disintegrate' can take 15 years yet will probably go systemic long before that happens. Uh huh, yes to receding jaw, yes to your points about injections of numbing agents... |
