Who's got Info on Wisdom Teeth
Hey guys, I know men most often have a rough painful time when wisdom teeth are coming in, and most often run to a dentist to have them pulled.
Invariably a dentist is going to tell everybody to have them pulled whether or not they're impacted (coming in at an awkward angle).

My son is just into 25, and periodically has a few weeks of episodic pain which goes away, (advil helps alot).

Here's where I hope somebody has similar experience to compare:
The tooth looks good and all 4 corners are just at the gum, none of the gum now covers the tooth. It looks straight and clean, but it hurts now and then, no sign of infection.

Even though he's 25 turns out he has actually grown in height approx 2" in the last year (6'1").

So I'm wondering if his jaw is trying to grow too.

I'm pretty skeptical of dentists because I've caught them trying for unnecessary treatment countless times and no longer trust them to give me the truth.
Seems 100% of the time a dentist is going to tell you to extract wisdom teeth either for good reason, or no reason but profit.

I don't want to be stupid about this either. Wisdom tooth extraction is very dramatic, but wonder if it's time for him to give in and have it taken out.

Anybody have any suggestions or experience of successfully bypassing this tooth trauma as it pertains to just wisdom teeth.
Thank you for sharing any insight or experience you may have, You've got my gratitude for sure!hf

My dentist used to claim that wisdom teeth were softer and thus more prone to damage/pain. I'm not sure of if he was full of it or not.

I used to have problems with my wisdom teeth but I just got on with the periodic pain and now have no problems at all.

Avoid dentists if at all possible, unless you're in agony as the more check ups you have, the more they will damage your teeth.

all this cleaning and hooking and stuff, damages otherwise healthy teeth.

Clean your teeth morning and night, using a soft bristled brush and very little toothpaste.

Dentists are rich for a reason and the reason is people's gullibility in falling for their scaremongering tactics.

When mine came in I ate tons of carrots and chewed them on the wisdom teeth to help them break out of the gums.
It was painful for a month or two while i did it but they came in nice and strong and I've had no problems since.

See, that's what I meant about dentists (and "professionals" in general) being veritible fountains of misinfo and usually I spit using common sense. Wisdom teeth have the same amt of enamel distribution as any other tooth.
That's what makes it so difficult, you can't trust any professional without research and soulsearching first.
But thanks for adding this to the information Soup. ;)

At age 25 getting wisdom teeth is very rare? Where precisely is the pain, more in the gums or the teeth? It's possible he could just havce gingivitis. If the pain is more in the gums I would reccomend Orajel Antiseptic rinse and PeroxiCare toothpaste.

Yes^^^. Through experience just like yours realize we're treating life as a medical condition, and teeth are the enemy to be handled agressively (bs).

Every now and then you might run into a dentist in a non-professionally, and one guy said he thinks Plaque is protective of teeth, because time and again noted people had more tooth loss and pain after intense scraping & foiling.

So yes, we never get anywhere without perspective and common sense, but open enough to reserve some doubt as to whether one is right.

In my son's case I did what you are saying, which is to ride out the pain, rinse with salt water just to make sure inflammation doesn't get out of hand with hidden infection.

You know how it is, right when you might be on the brink of resolving something, doubt takes over (healthy doubt).

Re: Who's got Info on Wisdom Teeth
Well, if it hurts, it has to go. My first wisdom tooth came in when I was 17. It was kinda painfull at first but it finally completly came out and i hava not had any kind of trouble with it since then. I'm 20 now and I have grown two more and apparently they are not coming out of the gums. I went to the dentist and she said that if they are not painful or if I don't develop some sort of infection, there is no need to take them out. I think your son needs to take that out, teeth pains are no joke. Be thankful that is just one.
Good luck!

His bio father had his come in at the same age as my son.
He had his pulled.

Right now I don't see signs of gingivitis, plus I got this stuff to replace a 'natural' oral rinse with this product:
Essential Oxygen organic Brushing Rinse..1% food grade peroxide + a few herbs, use it first thing in a.m., last at night to avert sore throats, ear issues, breath, gingivities preventative.
Different, mild & bubbles, and does seems surprisingly effective...
caveat: I'm not certain this could louse up the natural Ph in the mouth/teeth ... maybe use off & on?

Think of babies and puppies when they teeth.
They bite things right?
They bite on things because it aids in bringing through the teeth, sort of breaking them through whilst stimulating
the tissue into activity.

Dentists are to be avoided at all costs until absolutely necessary.

Just because we get toothache, doesn't always mean a filling or extraction as our bodies are fantastic at repairing many problems.

Naturally we break down from time to time where only surgery can ease or cure a condition, yet in the main, we cope very well and your own mind can actually cure a lot of problems that we all think cannot be cured without a medical opinion.

My wisdom teeth were not all that great, caused pressure and had a tendancy towards infection. Had them all pulled, felt much better.

Healthy animals have good teeth don't believe these meatballs that say stay away from the dentist.

One of my Molars had a piece break off last night, ya, I'm going to the dentist asap before I need a root canal hopefully.

You know I thought the same thing. Wisdom teeth are really unique in that they contain quite a network of nerves unlike other teeth.
When one is pulled it feels as though a limb has been chopped off and continues to be painful for another week or more.
There's got to be a reason for this.

Common sense again. One size does NOT fit all, and so you're doing what needs attention in your case.

We're talking about an overall approach to everybody's teeth used by dentists whether or not treatment is needed, greedy devils that they are.
I knew a lab tech who dated a dentist who had no qualms about charging 5x the avg rate of procedures..and he told me dentists in our town on avg charge approx 3x over.

I don't want to bore you with personal stories but correct information is something you have to feel and think your way through.
If your intuition tells you something is right it probably is.
Sorry about the pain you're having. :(
Feel better super soon :)

Exactly^^^. Whether it's profit or just plain misguided we have to break away from putting our wellbeing in the hands of people who may be steeped in ignorance. I know most often doctors are just plain wrong, and sadly I mean that you can't trust anyone even if they think they're right. I think we owe it to ourselves that until you trust your own perceptions and come around to agreement don't let them touch you.
After all, we're paying for and have to live with the consequences so why not have healthy doubt.

Good for you, might suggest that for him too.
Plus having cold carrots could be helpful.
In the old days parents would give their babies cold silver spoons to ease teething, so why would this be any different.

I have all mine, one is even at a weird angle. Never caused me any pain. I was told over and over to get them removed, "Wisdom teeth are hard to keep clean" was the only reason they gave. The dentists are no longer telling me this or even mentioning it now so I think the thinking on this hads maybe changed. I'm glad I still have mine. I never had any pain though, I never heard of pain being caused by them, but most people I know had wisdom teeth removed so idk anything except what I've personally experienced.

Also, for me, years later I'm glad I kept them, at the time my reasoning for not getting them out was I just didn't want to deal with exactly that, I didn't have time to stop my life and had no reason to go through unnecessary pain for no reason so I just kept putting it off, now I'm glad I did.

Re: Who's got Info on Wisdom Teeth
My wisdom teeth took years to fully come out and sometimes it hurt so bad. I went to the dentist only a few weeks ago and he said my wisdom teeth were great so I dont think that the dentist will just take them out for no reason.

My hubby had one come through and it was extremely painful for him. It looked absolutely fine but it was actually rotten underneath and he had to have his pulled out. It was no big deal getting the one taken out for him, the numbed him and took it out there and then, no swelling or anything.

If the pain is really bad I would advise him to go to the dentist and check it out. But if it comes and goes it may be just the pain of it coming through.

Re: Who's got Info on Wisdom Teeth
removing wisdom teeth will always cause the jaw to recede.

dont do it.

put up with the pain, do not put any injections in the gums as this will kill the root.

if your son can put up with the pain and allow the tooth the dissintegrate then he will grow a new one.

but if its removed then it will never grow again.
