Tip for the Ladies to save some money on your hair!
I usually go to a hair salon to get my hair done and it always costs me over $100.00 every six weeks. I was due to go again and changed my mind because of the cost this time. I ended up buying a L'Oreal color and doing it myself but this color is a 2 part, color and highlights. I was a little nervous doing it, the highlight step, but it did turn out not to bad for my first try!

The kit costs 14.99, sure beats over $100.00!!!

Here's the kit I used, found it online, I'd recommend it now. It took me about an hour and a half to do it this morning. thumbs

Here's how my hair turned out, covered all the grey roots too! lol

The highlights look good! Thats how I started doing my own hair. First with a box kit, and now I go to sally's and get the bleach and toner. It is scary at first ,LOL, but I get better results at home for a lot less money.

Hi OP, I've been coloring my own hair for over 20 years. My daughter spends about 150.00 for highlights, I do my own, and frankly mine is more even than hers.

It takes a while to get it just right, but once you've mastered it, it's no big deal.

Yep, my home highlights look just like my natural ones did when I was out skating all day!

Looks good, but if you want less chunky highlights, take a comb with a tail and separate the strands you want to color. Take fewer strands than you think necessary, it comes out really nice that way.

I've been using the foil method, and get good control with that. (not as difficult as it sounds).

Ya, doing the back was a challenge for me, I had to use another mirror that I had to hold as I picked pieces with my other hand, but to save that kind of money, it was worth it.

Looks good ! I also have used that kit in the past ...

Recently my sister wanted me to bleach her hair out from dark red dye she had been using for years to a light blonde, which used to be her natural color when she was young, anyway first I tried the Loreal Haircolor remover kit and it only took it up to orange so I went into the Sally's salon supplies store and they sold me a powder bleach called Wella and a bottle of activator (all came to less than $10) and that stuff mixed up in a bowl and lightened her hair to very pale yellow and white ! Then we put Nice and Easy color "Ultra light Blonde" on her hair and it came out beautiful, after all that she went and go t a short spikey haircut and it's cute !

Also, Op , I love the picture on the wall behind you hf

So you spend about 1000 dollars on your hair each year? This is something I could never understand about women. I know other women spend a lot more than that. Just seems a waste to me, to be spending such sums on what is basically 'dead cells'.

You did a great job! It looks really pretty!

Here are two videos of cutting layers into medium to long hair yourself using the rubber band method if anyone wants to save even more money. There are more videos out there like this one. It is really easy.

Good for you OP! Looks good! I've tried Eclair .. might be same color.

I had the same situation. At least $160 without the tip!!

One time I was visiting one of my sisters and went to her stylist just outside of Detroit.. cost was over $250.. I just about fainted!! I really couldn't even see a change.. it actually LOOKED better before they touched me. No joke.

Now I color my own and actually cut it myself as well.

The cutting is tricky and it takes me hours but I rather enjoy the challenge.

I do not work outside my home and just can not justify spending that kind of money on my hair when there are people who are desperate for food in this world.

Very pretty colour, KateS. You did a lovely job. And it looks glossy.

I stopped salon coloring/cutting mine about 25-years ago because it was too spendy. Now I keep it elbow length and "naturally highlighted".

I know. I love YouTube because of this. The key though to cutting your hair is taking your time and just cut a little at first Some people do this dry if you have very straight hair or wet if it is medium to curly. I'll just do a little bit and let it dry and see how it is. Sometimes it has taken me a week to get it just right.

Here is another do it yourself haircut using a product called the Crea Clip. It is the same idea as the rubber band method but does it a bit differently. Haven't used one myself but hear people like it. They have a smaller one to do bangs as well. I saw your hair is layered so that is why I posted these so it will give you(and others) options.

How about everyone just be happy with the hair nature gave them?

No fake extensions, no hair color, just natural hair - clean and brushed and maybe even curled.
