How do you plan on stopping that?

Think about it, the answer if very simple.

Well I thunk about it, and all I can come up with is.
How do you plan on making it so just not anyone can buy an assault weapon?

IFvery simple?
 Quoting: DooMCooN 1266067

The thing is that I don't want to get into an argument, because people here are very stupid. Like little kids. If you tell them that banning assault weapons or preventing people to sell guns to anyone in gun shows will make it significantly harder for crazy nutty people from getting guns, rather than looking at it logically and seeing how that can minimize things, they'll just completely, with tunnel vision focus on the fact that some criminals will still get guns and commit crimes.

They don't really think about the cause an effect of anything no matter the topic, they just want to follow their ideology or belief and discard anything that threatens it.

It's like money laundry. The government has rules that banks have to follow to prevent money laundry, and while it completely doesn't eliminate it, it makes it a heck of a lot harder for the criminals.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16439676

Well I'm not trying to sound childish. But I am a realist.
There are aaallllloooottttttt of people here. And allloootttt unregistered of guns. And we buy and trade guns back and fourth between one another all the time. So ban them. We still don't give two shit's. No one will ever know until the time comes. So I'm sticking with protecting my family and myself and my peers. Except the liberals. Fuck the liberals. Nobody likes liberals.

You should have every right without a doubt to protect your family. Under any circumstances! I'm not here to argue liberalism or conservatism. I'm here to argue about our basic rights as drawn out by our highly intelligent forefathers.

Nobody can control the unregistered guns. No one. The only way we can maintain our safety is by abiding by the amendments placed on our behalf.

I don't own a gun and I don't plan to. I'm not posting in this thread to discuss my decision. I'm here because I don't like how I see anyone who does own guns railroaded about it.

I have seen plenty of videos of people who do carry, stopping a crime. Our police depts. can't afford to do all that is needed.

I think society needs to address underlying problems of mental health to correct this situation. The gun doesn't pull the trigger.

Here is a copy/paste of what a friend told me:

"GOD and GUNS are not the issue.

I have bi-polar and A.D.D., it's called co-morbidity. I've struggled and fought throughout my life to keep my act together. I have heath insurance, I have a huge loving support structure, and STILL I can't find good MENTAL HEALTH care. I couldn't make or keep appointments, I couldn't fill out the paperwork, most of the time I lacked the will to even try. And when I did make it all the way to an appointment, I was once told that ADD was over-diagnosed and I probably didn't have it.

That was a blow of epic proportions, I didn't seek help for the next ten years. By that time my bipolar swings had imprinted themselves into my neuropathways. "Crazy" became a way of life. It wasn't until I met my wife that I made any real progress. Her voracious campaign is the largest factor in getting me any sense of stability.

What scares the shit out of me is how much understanding I have for those two young men. I've had a taste of their isolation, confusion, delusion. Their frustration, despair and hopelessness. I've been in the long dark night of the soul that never ends. Lucky for me mine ended.

They didn't start out as monsters but no one stopped them on their journey. We allowed them to become what they became. God's presence or absence didn't do it. Access to guns didn't do it. YOU DID. I DID. WE DID."

Here is my answer:

"I don't see why school curriculum can't be re-done, probably with the aide of psychologists. The curriculum could be re-done so it isn't so left-brained and also to develop character. This would change the emphasis. Testing could be done yearly and the kids put into leadership skill classes. This would eliminate stigma.

For example, kids who test low in empathy might all be put in a humanitarian class. If every kid is subject to these type classes, then there is no stigma, plus we have a better built-in programming for a healthier society.

I'm not saying this is the whole answer, but it could help. I think we need to re-evaluate all the violence presented to us in the form of news on television, internet and newspapers. And of course, video games and movies.

I see this as approaching the root of the problem better than controlling guns, arming teachers, etc:."

What you just posted was amazing. You are right. We need to address our young people at the earliest time. Intervention is a key to raising healthy happy children.

You have an amazing insight to what is wrong in our education today.

We need to teach empathy in our classrooms. Many parents are simply not effective mentors.

Wow, you blew me away with your insight and wisdom.

I went to whitehouse.gov and voted to remove the pissy Brit Pierce Moran from the U.S. He has no right to prosthelytize in our country.

Btw...I don't own a gun. But I did order two tazers and several different types of mace.

The world is too dangerous. They are going to make sure the thugs win and the descent citizens suffer.

Please do not support taking guns from Americans. Our forefathers knew what they doing. It will be our undoing.

In my opinon, a Forigner can't go to another country and try to use his or her position of influence to take a constitutional right away from that country.

It is a Fucking Joke. Piers Morgan is a Fuckin Joke.

A VOTE FOR JUSTIN TRUDEAU IN 2015, WOULD BE THE MOST COWARDLY & IRRESPONSIBLE THING A CANADIAN CITIZEN COULD DO TO THEIR OWN PEOPLE. GUN GRABBERS ARE THE COMMON ENEMY OF ALL PEOPLE.

GUN CONTROL HAS RESULTED IN THE SLAUGHTER OF 262 MILLION CITIZENS BY THEIR GOVERNMENTS OVER THE PAST 100 YEARS.

THE LIBERAL PARTY OF CANADA & THE NDP ENDORSE GUN CONTROL, AN ESSENTIAL POLICY OF HITLER, STALIN, MAO, POL POT, EDI AMIN, QADDAFI, SADDAM, ASSAD, & EVERY OTHER TYRANNICAL GOVERNMENT THIS PAST CENTURY.

CANADIANS MUST NEVER FORGET THE BETRAYAL OF BILLS C-68 & C-17. WE MUST NOT REST UNTIL THEY ARE FULLY REPEALED.

C-19 WAS A GOOD START......BUT JUST A START. GET OFF YOUR COLLECTIVE ASSES AND MAKE AN IMPACT. WE HAVE 26 MONTHS.

I, THEE BOB, SWEAR ON THE ALTER OF GOD TO FIGHT ALL FORMS OF CANADIAN TYRANNY AND SAVE MY COUNTRY FROM THE EVILS OF THE NEW WORLD ORDER. I WILL NEVER HAND IN MY GUNS. EVER. I AM A FREE MAN, I WILL NOT BE THE BITCH OF THE SOCIALIST ESTABLISHMENT. LEAVE ME ALONE.

I am a gun owner and happen to own several of what most of you would call assault rifles. I have a family and am the Father of a 7 yr old daughter and an 11 yr old daughter.

Last Friday I was devestated by the events in Newtown. I cried at my desk while at work and off and on over this past week. I couldn't help but put myself in the place of those parents and mentally visualize what those poor children must have endured before they died. I cried like a baby at the thought of my 7-yr old being in one of those rooms and am starting to again as I type this. I share these personal notes because as much as we would like to have and live in a perfect world, we don't. I wish more than anything that someone were there to stop him. I wish I could have been there to stop him. I don't necessarily believe this man was just mentally ill because what this man did to those babies was pure evil. What triggered it we may never know, but I know this. I will never leave my home or my children defenseless against such evil, drug induced or otherwise. So if they want to ban my weapons, I will not comply because they cannot defend my children just as they could not defend those chidren in Newton.

I'm going to close my own post. I'm sleepy. The key word is not to get sleepy over your rights.

Do not give up your rights no matter what. I mean fight for your rights in a peaceable manner. Write you congressman, your legislators and the president if necessary.

Join the main stream groups such as the NRA. This issue is about you and your family. Do you want to protect your family with your fists against guns? You will lose.

Please, please, please. Stand up for your rights. If you don't, no one else cares about you.

We live in an apathetic world. It's up to you to make a difference.

Don't think I'm cold about the egregious deaths in our schools and on our streets. I'm very much emotionally affected.

Don't let this happen to your loved ones.

Good night patriots.

Thanks OP. I have a great passion about this and I know you do too.

It would be so easy to just set it all up as regular curriculum and that way no one is stigmatized. With psychologists helping form the curriculum, we at least have a chance at helping kids develop leadership skills rather than force-feeding memorizing facts and figures.

Anyway, thanks for the thread and opening discussion on this. It's something all of us should be concerned about.

Happy Holidays!
