I hear Madonna's an expert on the kabbalah.

Ask her about it.

I wouldn't mess with that shit. The Bible certainly forbids it.

I do not agree, know several mainstream rabbis who taught it.

The Old Testament DOES forbid sorcery, but the Cabalah is not that.

A good book: The Kabbalah Tree: A Journey of Balance and Growth.

Rachel Pollack has done a wonderful book here, but she quotes the Golden Dawn tradition too much for me. Anything holy can be twisted, I am no fan of the Golden Dawn.

Kabbalah means "receiving" in Hebrew. It is a way of looking at creation.

What Madonna has done to it, is probably not good!

Think of the Kabbalah with its sephirotic tree as a ladder -like Jacob's ladder - that you can climb to reach a fuller understanding of Scripture.

Think of it as a way of channeling energy from God, as a way of interpreting the Bible.

Or just concentrate on the Messiah, who outshines all.

Re: Does any one know any good sources to study kabbalah from?
An example of kabbalah:

There are 4 levels of understanding a text.
We might say the literal level, the symbolic level etc.

In kabbalistic tradition, the four levels are:

peshat - literal understanding

remez - intellectual understanding

drash - allegorical understanding (like midrash)

sod - secret or mystical understanding.

Together the levels of understanding form a word:

PaRDeS.

PaRDeS is what we had in the Gan Eden, or Garden of Eden,

which was Paradise.

PRADISE was understanding God's creation on all levels.

Also, PaRDeS is similar to a persian word for "walled garden"

"La Pared" in Spanish is wall.

Paradise might be understood to be an enclosed garden, a secure place, where we understood God.
if mighty oaks are the king of the forest, beeches are surely its queen.
