If you question this, you should read the exposes on the "founding fathers" and the CONstitution -- mostly OLDER texts. One of the best books on this topic is copyrighted 1914.

You could also research the legal arguments made throughout our history. E.g., Lincoln argued that "We the People" had created the Union, so only "We the People" could dissolve it!! In other words, he was denying states their right to secede.
