Moonlight reflecting through a very cold atmosphere, ice crystals reflecting the light creating a halo effect around the reflector.
Quoting: PolarPrecursor I think the point is to 'look' because it is beautiful. Just because the phenomena has a scientific reason for occurring does not take away from the beauty nor the magic when witnessing said. The OP is simply attempting to share his or her awe and excitement at beholding something beautiful. Just because it has a labeled 'box' does not really change anything.  :)
