Supposedly, the school's "Symbol" IS the owl, which adds another layer, since apparently this is some kind of strange, gated community and adds some amount of creedence both to the pedophile angle as well as the sacrificial angle.

It also provides a reason for the child to have drawn an owl, but I imagine that if this were a school project then the entire class would have drawn owls, so who knows?
