disgusted with a parent, disgusted with myself | |

She grabbed the soda the older kids wanted and asked the youngest one which one she wanted. She pointed at water station I was at and said she wanted the good water. The mom said she wasn't going to pay for over-priced tap water, then snagged a 12-pack of root beer. I should have said something. I feel like a tard, but at the same time, I know it's none of my fucking business. What do glp? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29306313 It is usually over priced tap water. Wish it wasn't but it is. All you could have done is told the mother about filtering at home. It is none of your business too, in a way. Nothing you can do really. My cats will only drink the slimey, old green, rain water from outside now. I do filter. Cats are not like dogs and usually only drink CLEAN, pure water. |

Your intervention most likely wouldn't have changed anything. However, if you still feel like doing something, why not put together a free two hour seminar you could give at local churches and libraries for parents...you could talk about common sense nutrition and give them tips and ideas for healthy snacks and how to save money while giving their kids healthy food. Just an idea. You may have another idea that strikes close to your heart, just do it! p.s. I once watched a mother being so angry and mean to her three year old son, she was hollering at him in the convenience store to DAMN IT, GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE I SAID! RIGHT NOW! So I called her on it, and said you don't have any reason to speak to your little child like that, he's just a little boy, I wouldn't come over to you either if I were him, they way you are hollering at him! She told me to mind my own f-ing business, and I said ALL defenseless children are my business. So that was exciting but I'm sure she's still a bitch and he's probably grown and in jail by now. Useless intervention, but it felt good to do it. |

There are many times my kids ask for a soda while we're shopping... I don't keep pop in the home and my kids are all very active and live a balanced lifestyle. So, from time to time I indulge them a tad. At home we have fresh juices, milk, non-dairy substitutes and there's always a fresh pitcher of unsweetened tea. We also drink a lot of filtered water. It's natural to observe others and make assumptions, though. When I find myself doing that I try to remember that it's just a small glimpse of a family I'm observing and the whole picture might be different than imagined. Just a thought...
