All writing can be pretentious. I happen to like good poetry now and then. Edgar Allen Poe wrote entire short stories through poetic prose, I'm no where near the poet Poe was, when I write a story I still write mine in story format, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate a good poem...

And some folks seem to like my little poems, though like I said, I've never tried to sell them individually of my Short Stories or Novels.

If it's just poetry in general you have a problem with, my advise would be to not read poetry...
