They did. They're compatible with modern Western society, Islam is not. The foundations of Christianity is tolerance, work, and properity. The foundations of Islam is slavery, poverty and destruction of other lifestyles and religions. That's why muslim countries are poor ass hellholes, where the only hope in life is immigration.
