This storm system in the UK is starting to effect not only Europe but all way into Asia (Turkey)

Totally agree my house is 30miles from the sea nearest lake is a mile away and nowhere near any rivers ,ok its raining but we are talking the UK here

Here in No. California USA starting to flood- raining for a long while now- the rivers are almost at flood stage- I can relate to our UK brothers. This sucks.

Biggest contributing factor is the same warm desalinized expansion/swelling of fresher waters and the addition of melting glaciers causing similar inland flooding along the u.s. atlantic coastline.

..the Gulf Stream, warmed to perfection in the Gulf of Mexico with temps 20 degrees upwards of norm in wide areas past 2 summers.

In 2009 in my area there was a horrible horrible flood!
Flooded schools, businesses, homes... a lot of people lost everything they had... a lot of those people were poor. They still havent fully recovered. Many of the places flooded were destroyed... trailers, etc...

On one hand its silly to live in a flood plain... but you gotta stop and think... sometimes people dont have a choice... they gotta do with what they have. Sometimes all they got is a flood plain.

Its fucking sad...

I don't live in a flood plain... but... in 1939 in my area a cloud burst sent a 20 foot wall of water 30 miles across my area... killing many, destroying everything in its path... those people didnt live in a flood plain and they were hurt bad.

I wasnt alive then of course... unless you wanna believe that I am a real vampire ha...

but i know the stories of this super epic super rare event... The flooding in 2009 was nothing compared to the 1939 cloud burst...

Flooding is fucking scary... and even if we think its a poor choice of location to lay down ye head at night... we gotta realize that sometimes there is no other place for these people and events that are beyond our control happen...

Its not to bad near me a bit windy, no doom. I have just discovered I am no longer a paid member and GLP does not do what I want it to anymore, pretty doomy stuff.

It's like blaming the trees for making wind. Every square meter of concrete/tarmac creates more water for the storm drains to deal with, eventually you reach a point where they can't cope and then everyone shouts it's the extreme weather!!!B.S.

To think we started off this year with most of the southern UK water companys running with hosepipe bans and fear of droughts.
Most of this Summer has been a washout and this rain is just a continuation of that.
I blame the TPTB and the Privatised Water co for lack of investment in flood defences and better storm drain systems,

no it's not.
We don't get warm winters like this.....the wind and weather fronts are coming UP FROM the south west, this is not normal for winter in the UK at all...

Yeah, it's not very nice, you get tired of the rain pouring down. How bad it is depends how close to a river you are. I'm 10 miles away from Helston, and it's fine here, ie no floods, just some puddles.

The main problem in the UK is that it we have had heavy rain all year and so the ground is saturated.
Any rain does not soak into the ground, but runs off.

Lets all become Marxists and tax breathing to murder people because the weather is different? What do you say?

Stay safe over there! Having gone through Hurricane Sandy, I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

We had this same thing over the late spring- but worse came with the windstorms afterwards- so many trees, and big ones, toppled/ crisscrossed, everywhere- nothing to anchor the root systems. We're still clearing, and will be over the next year. Don't know how the bigger critters fare in all that- and a fire in that mess would seal their fate. :(
