The government's own statistics on Violent Crime in the US show a 49% reduction since 1991. This data is readily available from the FBI at www.fbi.gov for anybody to review. While violent crime remains too high in the US, the fact that civilian ownership of firearms has skyrocketed during that time indicates that this ownership is not contributing to violent crime and in fact may be responsible for the reduction.
