USGS states a depth of 18.7km.

There's no motion tensor solution provided yet, so it's not clear weather it was a normal, a slip strike, or a thrust quake.

Such a shallow thrust quake could trigger a small tsunami in the black sea.

I've been watching that area for a few weeks now and there seems to be a lot of seismic activity around the Turkey/ Greek area. But that swarm today in Georgia is a bit of a surprise.

THanks for sourcing that OP. That is exactly what I meant. There is a huge fault line running along the northern edge of Turkey, at the end of which is located one of the largest and most populated cities, namely Istanbul. Population near 14 million I think.
Just hope that the rip in that zipper like fault line doesn't kick off or it would be real bad if it occured there.

Re: EQ M 5.8 Black Sea Offshore Georgia-Turkey
A moderate earthquake rocked an area around the Black Sea on Sunday, sending residents of the Russian city Sochi into the streets, Russian news agencies reported.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the quake, which had a magnitude of 5.8 and struck at 1331 GMT, according to the US Geological Survey.

The USGS said the epicentre was located in the Black Sea, 46 kilometres (about 30 miles) from the coast of Abkhazia, a breakaway region of Georgia which neighbours Russia.

The Interfax news agency said the quake was strongly felt in the Black Sea city of Sochi, which will host the Winter Olympics in 2014.
