i did the same many years ago,took cpl years to get the rest family to join in,we gather for a nice dinner,an enjoy the company,an after mannny years we all loook forward to christmas,ive not been in a store at christmas in 10 years

You just gotta do it in moderation and not leave everything till last minute. Don't shoulder all the responsibility. Make your family and friends share it.

Christmas rules! Family, friends, parties, presents, mistletoe, hot toddys, Christmas cookies and dinner, Christmas music, wheeeeee!

I concur, It's a big headache, that cost big money, all the bills flying in, all the presents people expect that you buy for them, the money it cost to go out to celebrate.

To top it off, the new years celebrations, the boxing day sales. The system really wants our money.

It is what you make of it or allow it to be, my kids are coming home, the plan is to go to church as a family Monday evening, go snowmobiling, hot tubing, watch Christmas movies and eat some good food for a couple of days. Just spend time together, to me this is the most important part of this celebration.

I set myself free a few years ago and am so glad I did.

Yes lets waste: time, gas , money, electricity, and oil, to make our houses look tacky.

And we're suppose to be stressed for 2 months for one fucking day that has lost it's context.

I just don't like having to be around a bunch of family members who don't give a shit about each other, but pretend that they do on Christmas Eve.

We all have a dinner and everyone fake laughs, fake socializes, and then as soon as everyone leaves we forget about each other and don't speak to each other until next Christmas.

It's just all so phony.

It is what you make it. For us, good food, family time, and present or two and lots of love. I don't spend much money, we do lots of baking and cooking. I spent exactly one morning buying presents (which are practical in nature).

I stopped celebrating it years ago for religious reasons. One of the best decisions I ever made. I have ZERO stress around the holidays now, and my bank account thanks me.

Totally hear you! No tree this year for me. I put some lights on a plant stand so I guess it's like a festivus pole. I have a young son and I'm not filling his head full of commercial christmas fantasies. He's not going to sit on some pedo's lap in the mall or learn about satan claws with his slay bells who spies on kids. I bought a couple of pressies for the kids but no dollar store crap to fill stockings and told everyone else I'm just not buying gifts so they shouldn't bother. No piles of junk food that will just make everyone sick and fat. No dumbass christmas musik, ugh. Lot's of people I know are done but we can still get together and have a nice meal and be grateful for each others company,

Unfortunately we sometimes treat Christmas as a 'pop' event.

OP soon you will wonder why you didnt do it sooner,nearly 15 years ago for me,i actually look forward to the family an friends to start arriving tonite,we will cook an bake an laugh an cry,eat to much,have some wine an Enjoy ourselfs at christmas.
