I'm a fair hand at archery, not great by any means. I wouldn't recommend it for defense, either. Hunting is ok, though.

In days gone by archers trained for years. The English longbow had an unbelievable pull of well over 100 pounds (as high as 190lbs). The archers managed such pull weight by training hard. They did not pull back and hold. They released the instant they achieved a full draw. Very good archers using recurve and longbows shoot the same way. Your aim is instinctive and is achieved as you mount your arrow and draw.

I'm not that good. Still, the potential is there for massive destructive capability.
