thanks...in the case of severe weather like this, sharing info is crucial.

friend is telling me that though her area is forecast for tornado watch and severe winter storm, local news only says 'rain.'

FORECAST SOUNDINGS AT MIDDAY TUESDAY IN THE LOWER MS VALLEY DEVELOP
AN IMPRESSIVE SHEAR ENVIRONMENT AS THE MID-LEVEL JET APPROACHES THE
REGION FROM THE WEST. NAM FORECAST SOUNDINGS VALID TUESDAY AT 21Z
JUST SOUTHWEST OF JACKSON MS SHOW MLCAPE VALUES AROUND 1500 J/KG
WITH ABOUT 60 KT OF DEEP LAYER SHEAR. THIS COMBINED WITH 0-3 KM
STORM RELATIVE HELICITIES AROUND 400 M2/S2 COULD BE FAVORABLE FOR
SUPERCELLS AND TORNADOES. IF MANY CELLS CAN REMAIN DISCRETE...THEN
CONDITIONS COULD ALSO BE FAVORABLE FOR STRONG TORNADOES AS THE
LOW-LEVEL JET MOVES EWD ACROSS THE CNTRL GULF COAST STATES FROM
TUESDAY MORNING INTO THE AFTERNOON. AT THIS POINT...THE POTENTIAL
FOR WIDESPREAD WIND DAMAGE APPEARS JUST AS VIABLE. THE MAGNITUDE OF
THESE THREATS MAY DEPEND UPON THE DOMINANT STORM MODE. IF THE
FAVORED MODE ENDS UP BEING LINEAR...THEN WIND DAMAGE COULD BE THE
GREATER THREAT

out of three news outlets here in our area, only one is even talking about this potential weather online.

idiots NEVER update on the weekends. They just decide how they think things will go, and leave it up on their weather page till early monday morning. even if a damn tornado does come, it does no good to warn when the warnings are never put in place.

so...thanks luisport.

Complex Emergency in USA on Saturday, 22 December, 2012 at 04:50 (04:50 AM) UTC.

Description
A snowstorm walloped swaths of the state Friday, but the chances of a white Christmas in southeast Michigan were slim with temperatures expected to be in the mid-30s with little precipitation on the horizon. There's a 30 percent chance for some snow ending around 7 a.m. Monday, said Matt Mosteiko, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in White Lake Township. "We'll be in the 34-36 degree range so it will melt some of the snow on the ground," he said. "It doesn't look like it's going to be a white Christmas, per se, but we might have a couple of areas with snow. You could potentially create a snowball from the leftovers." The Friday snowstorm dumped more than 19 inches of snow in northern parts of the state, knocking out power to at least 142,000 electricity customers.

The National Weather Service says the highest snowfall totals as of Friday afternoon were 19.6 inches near Gaylord in the northern Lower Peninsula and 18 inches in Chippewa County's Kinross Township in the eastern Upper Peninsula. Totals since Thursday in northern Michigan generally ranged from 4-18 inches. Southeast Michigan topped out around 1 to 3 inches. CMS Energy Corp.'s Consumers Energy unit said Friday evening 144,000 customers lost power, and about 63,700 remained powerless Friday afternoon. DTE Energy Co. said 19,000 customers lost power Thursday, but all got it back. Due to high winds, another roughly 8,000 DTE customers in the Thumb area lost power Friday. In Niles, rescue crews freed a woman who was pinned Friday morning after a tree fell on a home during the snowstorm. Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City was closed because of the snowstorm. The storm forced the closing of dozens of northern Michigan schools Friday, giving students and early start to the holiday break.

According to AAA of Michigan, an estimated 2.9 million Michigan residents have travel plans during the upcoming Christmas holiday period, up 1.6 percent over a year ago. More than 90 percent of Michigan travelers will take to the roads and can expect to pay an average of $3.35 per gallon, up 4 cents a gallon over the same time last year. There were few arrival or departure problems at Detroit Metro on Friday, but many flights to Chicago were canceled. The storm that crippled the Midwest of Thursday dumped a foot of snow in parts of Iowa and more than 19 inches in Wisconsin's state capital.

Re: Christmas weather storm updates: 6 deaths,40+homes damaged with "numerous injuries !!!
Updated: Sunday, 23 December, 2012 at 03:55 UTC
Description
About 30,000 homes and businesses across Michigan remained without power after a fast, wind-whipped winter storm dumped heavy snow on parts of the state. Jackson-based Consumers Energy and Detroit-based DTE Energy mobilized crews Saturday to try to mop up the remaining outages. Consumers Energy reported that 25,000 customers still were without electricity after 160,000 were impacted by the storm. Workers from Michigan, Ohio and Indiana were to be joined Saturday by crews from Illinois to help restore power, the utility said. "We appreciate the patience of our customers as we get the upper hand on damage to our system now that this long-lasting storm has passed," said Garrick Rochow, Consumer Energy's vice president for energy delivery. "With the arrival of colder temperatures, in areas where power outages remain, we encourage residents to help neighbors who may need special assistance, including infants, the elderly or people with disabilities."

By late Saturday morning, nearly 4,900 Consumers Energy customers in Leelanau County were without electricity. Allegan, Benzie and Manistee counties each had more than 3,000 customers without power. DTE Energy spokesman Scott Simons said only 5,000 or so customers still were without electricity Saturday. Its 43,000 total outages had been scattered across southeastern Michigan. All customers were expected to have service restored sometime Saturday, Simons added. The storm, which arrived in Michigan on Thursday, was part of a system that began in the Rockies earlier in the week and has been blamed for deaths in at least five states. A 71-year-old man was killed Friday in St. Clair County when a Jeep lost control on a snow-covered road and slammed into his pickup. Between 1 and 3 inches of snow fell across the Detroit area Friday after many places received more than an inch of rain the day before, according to the National Weather Service in White Lake Township. Temperatures on Saturday afternoon hovered around freezing. The heaviest snowfall - a foot or more in some areas — was in the northern Lower Peninsula, Upper Peninsula and western part of the state, according to the weather service.

South Alabama:

BRN INDICES GREATER THAN 10 AND SFC-3 KM STORM RELATIVE HELICITY
BETWEEN 300 AND 400 M^2/S^2 SUGGEST THAT SUPERCELLS ARE FAVORABLE.
IN ADDITION...MOST OF THIS HELICITY RESIDES IN THE SFC-1 KM LAYER
AND EHI VALUES ACROSS THE FORECAST WILL BE BETWEEN 1 (ONE) AND 3
(THREE)...SUGGESTING THE FORMATION OF STRONG CONVECTIVE SUPERCELLS
WITH EF-2 AND EF-3 TORNADOES POSSIBLE.

WITH THE DECREASED STABILITY...CLOUD TOPS ARE NOW PROJECTED TO BE
NEAR 50000 FEET AND MAXIMUM VERTICAL VELOCITIES NEAR 50 M/S. WITH
THIS...AND THE FACT THAT THE MODELS ARE NOW BRINGING A LAYER OF DRY
AIR INTO THE MID LEVELS...INDICATE THAT LARGE HAIL THROUGHOUT THE
DAY IS POSSIBLE WITH THE STRONGEST OF STORMS.

Isn't this on a Scale of 1-10?

I'd say a 5 is pretty significant when you consider the possibilities.
One of the most important aspects of conspiracy theories is being able to discern when there isn't one.

Oh yeah, like you'd understand anyway.
