No, it's because of fear. They fear loss, attack and the stripping away of their rights. Now, this fear does not make any of these things suddenly real, but that's why they fight to maintain their gun rights. They are very afraid. *Just so that no one feels insulted here, fear isn't a sin or a bad thing, if there is a legitimate threat. It's a biological early warning system. Listening to it if you feel threatened is a good thing in general. Just don't let it control you past the bounds of reason. |

It's true, when's the last time the American citizenship used its guns to protect their collective national interests against ANYTHING except the possibility of their own self-defense? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25701543 It is called "THE LAST RESORT". Should America fall, and a dictator take power, Americans would have in their possession the POWER to REMOVE the dictator, or king, or conqueror, and restore the Constitution. Here is what the prevailing thought was, that formed the Second Amendment, from one of our founders, Tenche Cox, Pennsylvanian delegate to the Continental Congress: "The militia of these free commonwealths, entitled and accustomed to their arms, when compared with any possible army, must be tremendous and irresistible. Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man against his own bosom. Congress have NO POWER to disarm the militia. Their swords, and EVERY OTHER TERRIBLE IMPLEMENT OF THE SOLDIER, are the BIRTH-RIGHT of an American ... the unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people." Speaking of the fears of a WELL ARMED CITIZENRY turning their arms against each other, (you can see there were liberals even then) Cox dismisses them immediately. The MILITIA IS NOT the Continental Army, it is WE, THE PEOPLE. |

Guntards are hypocrites. Many guntards in congress and senate both voted for the patriot act. This law took away more of our rights than anything before, or since. OP is dead on the money. This is not about the constitution. |

Listening to it if you feel threatened is a good thing in general. Just don't let it control you past the bounds of reason. So here's an experiment for you to prove something to yourself. Dress up in your finest clothes. Put on your best jewellery. WALK into the worst part of your major city AT NIGHT. When you see a shady group of people gathered near a corner walk up to them and tell them the following. "I'm not from around here. I'm walking through the neighborhood. Can you lead me to any interesting sights?" If we never hear from you again, we'll assume you've learned a lesson. Last Edited by SE on 12/23/2012 02:06 PM |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1404545 OP is dead on the money. This is not about the constitution. What the fuck are you talking about... congress does not represent the people any more. They passed a bill with language to indefinitely detain American citizens without trial? Ron Paul was the only man in congress that was even protecting the constitution. Majority of people in America do not even know what the Patriot act entails, because the media neglected to show details. The citizens of America still want their freedoms protected and yes that has everything to do with the constitution. |
