Anonymous Coward User ID: 30710220 Germany 12/23/2012 06:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What do they / you think of northern ontario is that what you call the dead zone. Please I need to know, it is important for a study I am doing? Why are so many Canadians answering and not Germans. I am in northern ontario Quoting: canadian oldster What kind of study are you doing? There are better places to find out more about the preferences of German tourists. BC is very popular and probably the most beautiful region imo. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 30735229 Canada 12/23/2012 06:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | well wawa ontario could be considered a dead zone it's got one of those stretch of highways where you need a full tank of gas to reach the next gas station & no cell phone tower signals either that or go all the way north until you reach hudson bay by the time you get there you'll be dead. frozen or eaten by a polar bear or pack wolves those would be the only dead zones in northern ontario that I know about |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 476586 Canada 12/23/2012 06:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | thank you we are about four more hours north of WA Wa we are a friendly town but are also northern rednecks the reason I ask here is to get other opinions rather than the studies out there. Thanks so much and if more can respond that would be so fantastic. Got to say I love GLP been here for years now. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 30735229 Canada 12/23/2012 06:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | it is based on a decision made by our Mayor and council to send a new lady from town who came from Germany to market our small little town in northern ontario to Germany, A study shows that only 1 percent come to our area which is way north, I agreed with the study but the town thinks we can attract the German market here. I find it to hard to believe southern ontario, would be the better market and if they want to go a little noth for the bush North Bay market would be it or as some have said travel across Canada. Quoting: canadian oldster I think the only germans you'll attract up there would be germans who like to fish & hunt & camp in the remote wilderness away from largely populated areas |

There are over 20 existing tourist operators here most with 10 plus years, the town made no attempt to contact them and even after hearing the complaints of many went ahead with the idea. The known market for us here is local Canadian and American as well as southern ontario and manitoba |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 476586 Canada 12/23/2012 07:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | no we are way miles of north bay, I was saying why would germans want to come another eight hours north of north bay when they can have the bush and wilderness at places like north bay and more. They could have spent the money on marketing to our proven Canadian and American markets. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 476586 Canada 12/23/2012 07:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Our town opened a Jamboree on August long weekend did it for 12 years ran in the whole for 11 of those years costing taxpayer anywhere from 45,000 to 65,000 a year before they finally cancelled it. Brain of a shoelace, they started the Jamboree to cover the cost of operating a provincial park they took over around 15 years ago because the government was operating in the hole. So the town ran it and lost, they made the Jamboree and still lost. They still ran the park this year at a lost, can not understand when they are going to give it up. Put the shoelace around their necks and pull. |

We are a mix of rednecks and yuppies co-existing somewhat peacefully. We don't like coloured folk nor foreigners coming in and buying everything up.. If you Germans come up here, bring a car plant for us to work in, and you will be welcome... bring tourism? Wtf do we need germans to show us around our country for? |
