Mmmm...
Have you ever read the updated reports on "crack babies"?
The point is... while a baby CERTAINLY doesn't deserve to withdraw... really it so far hasn't been shown scientifically to actually cause a measurable change when all is said and done.
Perhaps, with all those unfilled opioid receptors, a withdrawing baby will gain a much more powerful bond with the mother...
The only "recreational" drugs to actually harm a fetus appear to be the GABA-ergics... alcohol, benzodiazepines, etc.
What if...
An alcoholic, pregnant mother chose to use heroin to withdraw from alcohol?
Cause it can be used for that after all... but for the stranglehold on study and indication to ONLY matters of "physical" pain.

Heroin being one of those. To the point of 'not caring' about anything else really... Some...most do not have your strength of character and will fold within the throes of bliss. To their very death and all that surrounds them. It is easy to project ones wisdom on those who hold it not. I know you understand. :)
