Sure Irish, Scottish and Canadian whiskeys are great, but this thread is about BOURBON. Have you ever had some good Kentucky bourbon aged in an Oak cask for 8+ years? We are like flies crawling across the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel: We cannot see what angels and gods lie underneath the threshold of our perceptions. We do not live in reality; we live in our paradigms, our habituated perceptions, our illusions; the illusions we share through culture we call reality, but the true historical reality of our condition is invisible to us.” |

It was the number one selling whiskey/bourbon through the 1950's. It's very inexpensive. Quoting: PokerFace Just an FYI, bourbon is one of the worst hangovers next to Gin. +1 Early Times is cheap and delicous! Old Grandad and George Dickel (tenesee whiskey) both make a great Manhattan and are affordable. |

Tried Woodford Reserve, MM 46, knob creek and knob creek small batch, bulleit and bulleit sb rye and willett. MM 46 was pretty darn good, so was knob creek small batch. Going to try buffalo trace, curious now. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 25765527 United States 12/24/2012 02:31 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Bourbon's unique character comes from the 51 to 79 percent corn in its recipe. The addition of water to crushed or rolled grain begins the fermentation process, and the fermented mash is distilled to produce a spirit that is no more than 80 percent alcohol by volume. Bourbon may be double-distilled and aged at least two years in charred oak barrels. The result is a mellow, woody blend of flavors that may be bottled straight out of a single barrel or blended from a number of barrels in a small batch. Sour mash whiskey uses the bourbon recipe but starts the mash with leftovers from a previous batch, much like the starter in sourdough bread. The sour mash process gives a sweeter, deeper flavor to the final product. The alcohol by volume content of bourbon and sour mash is adjusted to between 40 and 50 percent (80 to 100 proof) at bottling time. AND YES..MANY ARE...VERY MUCH DIFFERENT.. Evan Williamson..1783... Kipender User ID: 35459818 United States 03/02/2013 09:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have a favorite distillery. The reason is that is makes my 3 favorite bourbons for 3 different occasions. The distillery is the Buffalo Trace distillery. For my favorite special occasion it is Blanton's always. For a casual night drinking with company I take one step down with the Buffalo Trace. Now my everyday cheap bourbon, but still good enough to drink with just a couple of cubes is Benchmark 8. The nice thing about Benchmark is that for a bourbon that you can get a 1.75 for $20 it has still been aged 8 years. I have never found a smoother, nicer, bourbon in that price bracket. Now I won't try and say that it is as good as the Blanton's or Eagle Rare, but there is something special about a bourbon that you can have a glass or two every night and it won't break the bank. |
