You've got to feel for Bashar. Bassel his older brother died in 1994. His brother in law Shawkat died in a bomb explosion this year. His younger brother Maher lost a leg in a bomb explosion. Asma and the kids are in exile.
Bashar is all alone in his palace and every footstep he gives echo's against the empty walls of the palace. The warmth has gone. The paintings are there and the statues are there and the opulence is there and the splendour is there but Yarmouth is creeping closer. The sounds of the gunfire is distant but it is creeping ever closer. The palace gates are rattling in the wind.
Every day the mothers of Latakia phone Bashar and they are Weeping.Their sons of fifteen and older are dying. Bashar, please push that plate of Kebab kashkhash away and listen to the Weeping.
(Okay I am a bit intoxicated on X-Mass eve and am an ex-Saffie/Saffir living in NZ. This song by Bright Blue strikes a chord when I think of Syria.I am unable to link "Weeping" by Bright Blue to this post so if somebody could do that for me I shall be pleased.)
So you feel nothing because space separates you. It is good if you have separate space. You have deserved that.Look after your space. It could go wrong but work hard and treasure the space you are in.
