Actually Santa Represents a mushroom known as amanita muscaria.
Back in the day in Siberia shamans during the winter solstice would go and collect these mushrooms and bring them to families.
His suit is based on the dress attire that the shamans would wear.
Being that the area where this was done was heavily covered in snow the shamans would enter the houses through the opening at the top where the smoke from the fires came out. That is where we get him coming down the chimney.
The tree was a symbol of where the mushrooms grow.
The stockings along the chimney are symbolic of the people hanging the mushrooms up next to the fire to dry them out before eating.

Yep. I use to pray to Santa because my parents and all other adults told me to be good otherwise Santa isn't gonna bring me presents. So I would ask Santa go forgive me for being naughty. And all adults who told me to were so-called Christians. A Christians belief is not not ever worship or pray to anything expect the Lord God Almighty. So what the fuck?
