I'm born and raised in Phoenix, been here 26 years. I hate it and would leave to some place like Washington or Oregon in a seconds if I had the money. I don't know ONE SINGLE OTHER NATIVE that doesn't feel the same. We all want out, as this place is hell on earth.

I don't want to see Phoenix nuked or people die, but other than that, Mexico can fkn have it. Good riddance. I'll go someplace you don't feel like shriveling up and dying for 8 months out of the year.

Woke up in Phoenix at 0800 this morning wishing I had gone to Verde Valley a hundred miles away. The appointed time, 0815 came and went, I was feeling edgy, my BP a little elevated. Then was wondering if perhaps Akbhar had his watch set to Pacific time rather than Az time - the time zones are jogged an hour at this time of year - so pulled the covers over my head, like thats gonna help, and cringed until 0915 Az time. Radio and television stations were still broadcasting at 0915 so concluded all was well. Dragged myself out of bed after a fitful sleep, drove to downtown Phoenix to begin an eleven hour shift just a stones throw from the Az capitol building, ~7,000ft per google maps. Lament not getting up at the crack of dawn and driving down to the capitol bldg to see if I could get some footage of the white lorry parked, but maybe its just as well I did not. Its 1247 Az time and all is well in downtown Phx. BTW there is no Capitol turnoff from 17, thats just artistic license, I think the turnoff would be McDowell, Van Buren. Local TV stations are all very close to Ground Zero so doubt they would be offering coverage, I guess stations from Tucson would swoop in for the scoop of a lifetime. Can't wait to read the book in 2013. Course the day is not yet over...

I've been stuck on the NW Phoenix for over two years now. I still have a scar from burning my hand on my car last summer in a parking lot.

NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING but 125 degree temps for 5 months straight, strip malls, chain stores, esthetically benign brown desert landscapes, fake adobe cookie cutter houses, the WORST chain restaurants (except one) RUDE SHERIFFS and "snowbirds" who the police coddle and protect and the worst drivers in the country.

The place does not produce ANYTHING. It only consumes resources. They saturate the ground everywhere, even the children's playgrounds at the park with Roundup. People that have houses on the golf courses that meander through the neighborhoods all have COPD and tumors on their livers and thyroid glands.

NUKE IT! Or give the bottom half of AZ back to Mexico. Let Sheriff Joe hand them the key and he can go with it. Win win. The northern half of the state is like a different country from here. When I go up to Prescott or Sedona I tell people I'm from Phoenix and they all say "oh, I'm sooo sorry!"

No big loss. No music, no decent food, no art, crappy sports teams with the DAMN UGLIEST stadium I've ever seen. It's supposed to look like a barrel cactus but you don't know that until someone tells you. A big, huge aluminum building off the highway that you look at and think "what the HELL is THAT?". every review of food, music and art in the papers here is centered around comparing what's happening here to everywhere else. Nothing is original here.

Just take the damn place. It's NOT worth starting a war over. I'm leaving after the first of the year and won't be back. Dry air that sucks the life out of your skin or during the monsoon months you can't go outside without sweating you ass off even at 11 pm or 5 am, which are the only times you can walk your dog. AWFUL medical system, insane politics, mental midgets for police, the lowest education ratings. JUST TAKE IT. FREE. GOOD FREAKING RIDDANCE!

I was more comfortable living in East L.A. and then near Compton. The people were friendlier and the food was better. I'm taking my chances and moving to the semi-rural central Cal coast. Mountains, oceans, great food, always something different to do. I might slide into the sea, but at least I'll be well fed and smiling. And probably with a bikini clad girl by my side.

um i was born and raised in AZ.... not once have i or have heard of anyone burning their hand on a car... you must be fucking stupid. its only super hot like 3 months out of the year, and its not 125.. more like 110... the rest of the year is perfect and has better weather than most states.... aside from the republican idiots that live here....AZ is great. you must have lived in a shit area. this is NOT anywhere as close to EAST LA or or comptom. you must have REALLY lived in a shithole here in AZ then. there are lots of good places here to eat but obviously you don't know of them. there are malls and chain restaurants everywhere in US.. not just AZ. AZ has lakes, mountains, desert, forests, snow, and great weather most of the year except for the few months out of the summer... which it wouldn't be THAT HOT if you weren't so fucking fat.
