Canada here. -47C with no wind chill at least once every winter, lasts sometimes 3 weeks. Car starts, everyone goes to work, life goes on. Pretty typical here but yes when doing a cold start in -47C if you do not have an engine bock heater only older cars will start and only if they are well tuned. Tires do tend to get flat on the bottom so for the first few minutes it feels like driving on square tires and your seat is hard as a rock. That was my experience young and poor parking outside with no block heater. Most people garage their cars and/or use engine block heaters so the coolant is lukewarm on start. Only thing is, keep an emergency bag in your car and be prepared to go it alone for a while if you hit a drift and go off the highway in winter. Stay in your car and keep your head. Every year a few people try to walk what seems a short distance for help and they don't make it. |

Get on google earth or look at a globe... if Europe and Asia are getting colder, then North America should get warmer.... and it is. Other than a few days of cold, it has been extremely hot (not warm, but hot) here in the USA. I might be wrong, but it is my theory. Paranoia will destroy ya, but the truth shall set you free! |

I think siberia has Record is northern hemisphere -70C something and some areas have permafrost. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30793475 Exactly, a town in north-eastern Siberia holds the record for the lowest temperature ever recorder in the northern hemisphere: -71.2°C / -96.2°F. However, temperatures of around -65°C / -85°F are not uncommon there. Plus, there are quite many towns in Siberia where temperatures regularly reach around -60°C / -76°F. The locals there say, that spoken word freeze in the air before they reach another's ear. |
