Why were these "sun dogs" never discussed until recently? Did it not happen until the past few years or something? Seems many are not aware of this phenom and seems like something many would know considering how many space and sky enthusiasts there are.

The article talked about it being some sort of reflection. If that was the case then it has happened before. DOCUMENTATION? I didn't think so.
