Guess the 'food chain' is well in evidence: first it was Whites at the top, followed by Asians, then Blacks, Hispanics and lastly American Natives. NOW it is LATINOS/Hispanics, Whites, Asians, Latinos, Native Americans and lastly blacks. Latinos - more specifically Mexicans - are not about to go back to Mexico as it has become clear that California, and primarily Los Angeles, is the NEW Mexico! For the poster I am responding to --- WATCH OUT! Some day you may be in the SAME position of begging for dollars out on the street, in part from your own karma of misjudging others and of having a racial outlook that only helps to cause more damage than to understanding the workings of our current society! Why is that a problem because it makes selfish fcks like him feel GUILTY because he is too selfish to part with his PRECIOUS 8 quarters because they are HIS and no one dare take ANY of it from him or even SUGGEST it. I had to go pay my car insurance and when I was getting back into my car in the company's parking lot, he walked over to me and said he was short on change for the bus and asked, very politely, if I could spare some. I told her I wouldn't give her the money, but I would pay for the gas for her, and she looked SO relieved! I felt so sorry for her. I wish I could have bought more for her, but unfortunately I live on a tight budget myself, and was buying twenty-five bucks worth of gas for my own car at the time. AND, just recently, I was coming off the highway and saw a black man standing on the side of the road, holding a sign that read: I'm hungry. Please help. So I picked him up, drove to my bank, and withdrew $100 and gave it to him. (I know, I probably shouldn't have let him get into my car, but he looked too tired to do anything but sit there, which is wxactly what he did.)And he was so thankful. After I dropped him off, I cried all the way home... Trust me: Doing things for others in need ALWAYS returns to you. I'm living proof of that. And good for you. I'm a black lady and I say thank you for helping her. That one is a common ruse, used to see it all the time. However, offering to buy her gas was the right thing to do. If someone asks for money because they are hungry I generally offer to buy them something to eat. You would be surprised at how many people have turned me down and acted annoyed because I didn't give them green. Other posters are right when they say to trust your gut. It is never a bad thing to try to help someone. I also met a homeless guy once and he told me he needed money for a drink because he was starting to get sick. Knowing that someone who drinks regularly can die trying to detox on their own can kill them I got him some booze. I recall the time I lived in a majority white neighborhood. I was at the grocery store putting my bags into my car as a young white girl approached me. I wondered what she wanted, but not for long. She asked me, a black woman mind you - a butch looking one at that, lol, if I had some change so she could buy her baby some diapers. Initially, I was shocked, for one, that she approached me out of all the other people in the lot - all others were white, but in that moment I felt completely compelled to give from my heart. And so I did. I gave her my last $5 and felt wonderful after doing so. She was very thankful. I don't know if she hadn't had any previous luck, but the fact that she asked me told me one thing: she needed it. I was the ONLY black person around, I kid you not. Race matters NOT, and most importantly, it matters LEAST when giving from the heart to someone in need. Thank you for being kind, OP. People like you make the world go round. Thank you for not judging that young girl, and for being kind to the man that verbally attacked you for doing so. You're a good person. |

He would smile, cry, etc....Turns out, the assholes that were supposed to be caring for him, were cashing his SS checks, and letting him starve. They went to jail, and he went to a home. Poor thing. Everything happens for a reason. Who knows what butterfly wing's flutter begins one place and ends in another. I liked your story very much. Great post...way to be a light in his path. |
