For people who hate GM foods...meet the man who saved a billion lives
Usually people attack things they do not understand. Most people aren't skilled scientists and innovators, so when they hear GM foods they panic and create stories in their head to meet their agenda. While you are busy being a slave and attacking the "elite" who you fear...some people will keep trying to do good...

Meet Norman Borlaug..."the man who saved a billion lives"

Re: For people who hate GM foods...meet the man who saved a billion lives
It may look good in the short term, however high yield, disease resistant plants are not a good thing in the long term because they have created a plant that has been altered to have more "naturally occurring" pesticides in them, which is actually rendering them poisonous.

Are you "rendered poisonous" because you got the chicken pox vaccine?

If I had the vaccine , yes I would be rendered poisonous...I have had other vaccines as a child and I feel that these have created health issues in my family.

Re: For people who hate GM foods...meet the man who saved a billion lives
There is a bit of a contradition to this thread as it says GM saved a billion lives, yet the Wiki link says "The Cooperative Wheat Research Production Program, a joint venture by the Rockefeller Foundation and the Mexican Ministry of Agriculture" yes the Rockefeller Foundation the very same foundation that wants to bring down the global population, so which is it, saving lives or reducing the population, you cannot have it both ways.

Except when I see his link to Monsanto I get a little less excited for what he has done for the world.

Or could GM agenda also be a part of the population reduction agenda?

Ok, here's another link that gives another perspective. This articles states that Norman thought the world could sustain 9.5 billion people.

Re: For people who hate GM foods...meet the man who saved a billion lives
The big issue is more complex. I'd have no issue eating food which had had extra vitamin genes spliced in, and verified to be producing what its supposed to.

However much of GMO is of two types:
1) Resistant to poisons that kill weeds. The poisons can then also remain in the GMO crop. For example round up. While much lower toxicity compared to agent orange, its not something I want to be eating every day! Yes residue and metabolites end up in "round up ready" crops.

2) Insect resistant crops. Sounds great until you hear how it works. The plant is taught to produce its own insecticide. In some cases these are exotic RNA based insecticides. They are not tested for lack of effect in humans, and there is no reason to believe they should be free of effects.

Instead of worrying about GMO, we need to be worrying about the particular toxins applied to or created in GMO crops.

You bring up interesting and valid points. Do you have any scientific articles highlighting your claims?

Sounds more like a sales pitch to buy DVDs and donate to that organization. No real facts are displayed in that video.

Monsanto goes to great lengths to make sure only their strains of anything are used. I'm only refering to the U.S. in that regard. I don't know about any other agendas although I'm sure they are there and much bigger than my small mind can imagine.
