pshhh, you're the man, thats your job. Suck it up and do it for your lady. Shes your woman, its Christmas, how bout you sacrifice a little bit of your precious time to do something nice that will make her happy. Offer it up homeboy. Quit bitchin. You know it'll pay off.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29860447

Pussy whiped girlyman.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27211004

Your the pussy bitching and whining about a little work.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3207781

Right, even to call it work sounds absurd to me. Then again, I guess how strongly I feel about this for some reason is absurd too. Maybe some of us are just natural 'helpers', esp for those we love.

"Risking life and limb"... really?? To hang up a string of lights?

I mean, to each their own, but is that not a bit over the top?

If OP has some sort of disability that has not been presented or lives on the 16th floor of some building then I retract my statement, but damn, it's just hanging some lights.
 Quoting: Patrick Bateman

That is the sort of cavalier "young and bulletproof" attitude that is common... and dangerous.

Yes, every time you climb up a ladder, you endanger yourself. Add unfamiliar tasks, some electical wires, and cold weather, and the risk is increased.

Sure, I climb ladders, and I feel little fear about it.

I'll do it to fix a roof. But not to decorate a roof.

One is a necessary risk, the other isn't.

Female GLPer here.

The OP would be sensible to simply state that he does not think that putting up decorations is worth the risk of injury.

Stand your ground, OP.

This is not about risking life or limb to rescue someone. It's about risking life or limb on a frivolity.

If you don't want to do it: Don't.

How would you feel if if you gave into her whim, then ended up in a body cast? Unimaginable bitterness and resentment.

A simple "No" is sufficient, respectful, and respectable.

Don't get yourself into the emotional blackmail trap.

You do and don't do what give you personal wellbeing and self-respect.

And, if we are going there, how would he feel if he didn't do it, she did, and she somehow got hurt?
 Quoting: Patrick Bateman

Detachment.

Nothing.

She undertook a potentially dangerous task, out of her own motivation, and a natural event occured.

He has no reason to feel anything; he was wise enough not to take the same foolish risk.

I guess I have just done similar things too many times for things like construction when I was younger where now it does not bother me like it may others.

Don't get me wrong, I have been injured and probably broken more bones than most on here and I am only 27, but never doing a task as simple as hanging christmas lights.

But, to each our own. hf

Absolutely common sense here.

"She" doesn't want to climb up there and hang the lights.

Why? Because it is dangerous.

So she wants him to do it. Because it is dangerous.

This is not a gender thing. It is a selfish thing.

A woman would be every bit as able, and in some ways perhaps better able, to hang the lights. It does not require any real heavy lifting. It requires agility. A smaller person is usually more agile (all other factors being equal).

Whenever we have to do something on the roof (notice "have to", not "frivolously want to") my husband positions and 'spots' the ladder while I climb up, walk around up there, and do whatever needs done. He's stronger, I'm more agile.

First make sure your life insurance policy is up to date.

I actually know someone who fell off the roof of his business while hanging Christmas lights and died.

So remember the safe work practice - 100% tie off over six feet.

And then hang up the goddam Christmas lights!

You can talk turkey later
