This actually happened to my brother when his son was being born. He didn't even know about the birth or even the pregnancy until afterwards then they had the custody issues amongst a DNA test since his ex was cheating on him.

However there's probably other issues on the why this would be. It's not always the dad's fault, hell their dad could've died before they were born or something too.
