My kids are getting used gifts. 2 kindles, a electric guitar (Kramer), a compound bow, block field knifes and an SOG tactical tomahawk. All used. It is the best I can do. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20478377 Drive some alleys and pick up shipping pallets. You can make one hell of a fort that a kid would love. You aren't alone but at least your kids are with you. I was Santa for a battered women shelter and it was heartbreaking thinking those kids lives have been turned upside down because of poor parenting Quoting: docsquat These are good tips. I remember we used to build our own forts in the woods and stuff like these, it was very elaborate stuff. How about you build it together with your kids, the presents beung the stuff docsquat talks about. Probably have some junk at home you can use for building materials. Or some neighbours probably have junk they don't need that you can use, or use stuff from the forest. |

But, I think christmas is sooooo over rated. The tv, radio, newspapers everything is telling us to spend, spend, spend. Most people these days can barely afford to pay their mortgages, let alone spend all of this money. I hope a secret santa comes by your house tonite and leaves something nice for you and the kids. |

So they are not getting the play set / fort they wanted again this year. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14577918 We are all alive & healthy, but that's hard to explain to a five & a seven year old. Anyone else? yeah...celebrate solstice, and talk about the illusion of spending money to make each other happy. don't guilt trip yourself hun. Tell ya what.. don't sweat it.. take the time to spend it with them.. go fishing.. sledding, anything Spend the day with them, they will remember that more. Take the time to have a close relationship with your kids.. that goes for all of you. it may seem like things are bad but the time they are growing and impressionable is short. Don't let the fucksticks in government take that from you as well.. MAKE the time and be a parent, they will respect that more in 10 years than some chinese chinkoleum toy. Grateful is the person who gives the gifts that money can't buy! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14577918 Am I the only one that sees this part of OP's post!? I call BS! Or horrible parent. Don't know about the BSing but have been reading his posts on other threads and says he has three kids and looks like times have been tough. He says the kids aren't his but are now so maybe adopted from a relative? Maybe OP could tell us more if he would come back. Anyway, maybe he could have pawned some stuff. But he shouldn't promise kids things that he can't deliver. A few little things would have been better than nothing. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 1550123 12/25/2012 12:19 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Nothing for my kids. They know the deal. This is a fake commercial hyped event completely overshadowing the real meaning. I refuse to buy presents for anyone at Christmas. They get good presents on their birthdays. That is enough. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1319395 As long as the kids know this in advance I don't have a problem with not giving presents. Most kids get tons of stuff during the year and any more is just overkill. I rather like the after xmas shopping to get deals and so do my kids. We don't do commercialized holidays anyway and it works out much better. |

Personally I kept thinking something would happend and I would be able to get a few simple toys. It turns out you have to sign up for toys for tot's like 3months in asvance. Everywhere you go You have to prove you are truley in need. In my case just too much debt to pay off due to a slab leak/ major plumbing repair, foundation repair/ leveling, new rook , Broken central air/ heat, broken, clothes washer, minor auto accident... still a big bill. Broken computer's. You name it it broke 2 years ago all at onece. I stayed home and home schooled my autistic son, since the shool system won't educate my child appropriately. He needs a 1:1 to keep him on task. So only one working parent. My daughter was doing great. We got a few gift from relatives. moslty my kids cut out and pasted onto cardboard, what they wanted form magazines. The kids were fine with it. I think I had a harder time with it then they did.I kept reminding them that thre was someone in the world that had it tougher then us. I did have to go back to work though to get back on our feet. |

Put your hear, mind, and creativity together, and you'd be surprised what you could do with little or no money. It's still early enough to try, look around the house, and put that imagination in full force, and you'd be surprised, Peace. |

Christmas should be about Christ. Maybe you should be more involved with a local church. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30787543 this Explain to them the true meaning of Christmas the quicker they learn that life is not really about materialism the better. |

I volunteered last Friday and there were literally thousands of decent toys being given away for free to families. for this year, make XMAS day a family time day for creating good memories together. I can't remember hardly any gifts I received, but I remember the traditions and what I did with my family. Rule #1: "People are stupid. Given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. People will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People’s heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool." Primordial Rule: "The rule unwritten. It is the secret of all life. It is the essence of life itself. You are a creator and master of your own reality. You ultimately make your own rules." All the rules: [link to sot.wikia.com] |

| Sherrigirl2012 User ID: 27279655 12/25/2012 12:51 AM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Its been tough on us. I don't have gifts for my kids. They are older though--16 and 25. I am going to have a nice dinner for everyone :) That to me is what Christmas is about: the getting together with family and having a good time. After we eat, we usually play games of some kind till late at night. It will be fun <3 So don't feel alone. I feel blessed we have the money to get the stuff to fix a fab dinner tomorrow. Going to school and working part-time and hubby getting no overtime has made it a rough early winter, but everything is fine. We all have each other and that is what counts. <3333333333333 |

A church would have put your kids on an Angel Tree and some churches will adopt an entire family to do the full Christmas for, not just a gift each, but dinner and a complete Christmas. |

I've been been poor, real poor, but I never made the kids miss out and I never felt desperate enough to go to the Christmas lunch but on for the poor. Could you not of at least rung up and got someone to pick you up? They give the kids a present as well as a full on Christmas lunch. I think you suck, this screams of I'm a selfish git who didn't make any effort at all ... not even to ring up and get taken to a Christmas lunch for the poor were others would have paid for a toy for my kid! . |
